Quantile regression for the FDI gravity equation

Abstract Firm-level heterogeneity shapes foreign direct investment (FDI) flows, whereby a few firms are responsible for most of the world's FDI. Aggregate outcomes of FDI are highly skewed, and the estimates of FDI's antecedents vary largely depending on FDI level. The incidence of individual firms, however, varies across FDI's quantiles. To study the individual firms' effect on FDI flows, this study develops a quantile regression method for bilateral FDI panel data. This study estimates the differential incidence of individual firm-level projects on aggregate flows among 161 countries from 2003 to 2012. Product placement in video games: The effect of brand familiarity and repetition on consumers´ memory

Product placement in video games is gaining momentum as a means to target audiences in an indirect and engaging way. This research uses a 2 (high repetition vs low repetition) x 2 (high brand familiarity vs low brand familiarity) factorial design to test the effects of repetition and brand familiarity on consumers’ memory for brands placed in video games. Results suggest that consumers recall better familiar than unfamiliar brands placed in the video game and repetition increases recall for familiar brands. Enforcing mobile security with location-aware role-based access control

This paper describes how location-aware role-based access control RBAC can be implemented on top of the Geospatial eXtensible Access Control Markup Language GeoXACML. It furthermore sketches how spatial separation of duty constraints both static and dynamic can be implemented using GeoXACML on top of the XACML RBAC profile. The solution uses physical addressing of geographical locations, which facilitates easy deployment of authorisation profiles to the mobile device. N1 and N2 nanoparticles are loaded with rhodamine 6G and capped with bulky poly(ethylene glycol) derivatives bearing ester groups (1 and 2). The electrical properties, electroluminescence (EL) power output and deep trap spectra were studied before and after 5 MeV electron irradiation of near-UV single-quantum-well (SQW) light-emitting diodes (LED) structures differing by the presence or absence of InAlN superlattice underlayers (InAlN SL UL). The presence of the underlayer is found to remarkably increase the EL output power and the radiation tolerance of LEDs, which correlates with a much lower and more slowly changing density of deep traps in the QW region with radiation dose, and the higher lifetime of charge carriers, manifested by higher short-circuit current and open-circuit voltage in current–voltage characteristics under …

Background Titanium-molybdenum alloy (TMA) and stainless steel (SS) wires are commonly used in orthodontics as arch-wires for tooth movement. However, plastic deformation phenomenon in these arch-wires seems to be a major concern among orthodontists. This study aimed to compare the mechanical properties of TMA and SS wires with different dimensions. Material and Methods Seventy-two wire samples (36 TMA and 36 SS) of three different sizes (19×25, 17×25 and 16×22) were analyzed in vitro, with 12 samples in each group.
