Determination of eddy diffusivity in the lowermost stratosphere

[1] We present a 2D-advection-diffusion model that simulates the main transport pathways influencing tracer distributions in the lowermost stratosphere (LMS). The model describes slow diabatic descent of aged stratospheric air, vertical (cross-isentropic) and horizontal (along isentropes) diffusion within the LMS and across the tropopause using equivalent latitude and potential temperature coordinates. Eddy diffusion coefficients parameterize the integral effect of dynamical processes leading to small scale turbulence and mixing. Adiabatic Time-Dependent Hartree-Fock Calculations of the Optimal Path, the Potential, and the Mass Parameter for Large-Amplitude Collective Motion

The adiabatic time-dependent Hartree-Fock theory is reformulated in order to yield a simple differential equation for the collective path with accompanying simple expressions for the collective mass and the potential. With use of three-dimensional coordinate- and momentum-space techniques and density-dependent interactions, the new adiabatic time-dependent Hartree-Fock formalism is applied to $\ensuremath{\alpha}\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\alpha}$ scattering and correspondingly to the fission mode of $^{8}\mathrm{Be}$. In the overlapping region the resulting collective mass deviates strongly from the reduced mass.

Interaction between optical parabolic pulses in a Raman fiber amplifier

We investigate the interaction between optical parabolic pulses in a Raman fiber amplifier. Self-similar amplification of two identical time-delayed pulses creates an oscillation which further evolves into a train of dark solitons through the combined effects of non-linearity, normal dispersion and adiabatic Raman gain. Theoretical predictions are in good agreement with experimental results.

Stratosphere-troposphere exchange in the vicinity of a tropopause fold

Transport of air masses from the stratosphere to the troposphere along tropopause folds can lead to peaked ozone concentrations at ground level and hereby influence the long-term trend of tropospheric ozone. Purification of Lindblad dynamics, geometry of mixed states and geometric phases

We propose a nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation in a Hilbert space enlarged with an ancilla such that the partial trace of its solution obeys to the Lindblad equation of an open quantum system. The dynamics involved by this nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation constitutes then a purification of the Lindbladian dynamics. This nonlinear equation is compared with other Schr\"odinger like equations appearing in the theory of open systems. Giant barocaloric effects over a wide temperature range in superionic conductor AgI

Current interest in barocaloric effects has been stimulated by the discovery that these pressure-driven thermal changes can be giant near ferroic phase transitions in materials that display magnetic or electrical order. Here we demonstrate giant inverse barocaloric effects in the solid electrolyte AgI, near its superionic phase transition at ~420 K. Over a wide range of temperatures, hydrostatic pressure changes of 2.5 kbar yield large and reversible barocaloric effects, resulting in large values of refrigerant capacity. Control of photoassociation of atomic Bose-Einstein condensates by laser field configuration

In this work we show that it is to perform an efficient adiabatic passage in a basic quadratic-nonlinear quantum two-state system describing weakly bound molecule formation in atomic Bose-Einstein condensates through photoassociation by laser fields. An efficient adiabatic transfer is also possible if the third-order nonlinearities describing the atom-atom, atom-molecule, and molecule-molecule elastic scattering are taken into account. Spectral index-flux relation for investigating the origins of steep decay in γ-ray bursts

$\gamma$-ray bursts (GRBs) are short-lived transients releasing a large amount of energy ($10^{51}-10^{53} $ erg) in the keV-MeV energy range. GRBs are thought to originate from internal dissipation of the energy carried by ultra-relativistic jets launched by the remnant of a massive star's death or a compact binary coalescence. While thousands of GRBs have been observed over the last thirty years, we still have an incomplete understanding of where and how the radiation is generated in the jet.
