Contribution of endothelin receptors and cyclooxygenase-derivatives to the altered response of the rabbit renal artery to endothelin-1 in diabetes

2006

The influence of diabetes on regulatory mechanisms and specific receptors implicated in the response of isolated rabbit renal artery to endothelin-1 was examined. Endothelin-1 induced a concentration-dependent contraction that was less potent in arteries from diabetic rabbits than in arteries from control rabbits. Endothelium removal or NG-nitro-L-arginine (L-NOARG) enhanced contractions to endothelin-1 either in control and diabetic arteries. Indomethacin inhibited endothelin-1-induced response in control arteries, but enhanced it in diabetic arteries. In contrast to that observed in rubbed and in L-NOARG treated arteries, in the presence of indomethacin the contractile action of endotheli…

Transcultural adaptation and validation of Italian Selfcarediabetic foot questionnaire

2021

[Abstract] The Italian Self care diabetic foot questionnaire, (SDFQ-IT) is considered a dia-betic foot self-care evaluation tool with 16 questions for assessing diabetic foothealth disorders. To date, SDFQ has been validated in different languages, butan Italian version was lacking. Consequently, the purpose of this study was totranslate and validate the Italian version of the SDFQ-I T (SDFQ-IT). A suitablemethod was developed for the translation protocol and cross-cultural valida-tion from Spanish to Italian. Regarding the total marks from each sub-scale,agreement degrees, and confidence were analysed using the Cronbach's α andintraclass correlation coefficient (IC C), respectively. In add…

Apical periodontitis and glycemic control in type 2 diabetic patients : cross-sectional study

2020

Background The objective of this study was to analyze the possible relationship between the glycemic control and the prevalence of apical periodontitis in type 2 diabetic patients. The null hypothesis was that apical periodontitis is not associated with glycemic control. Material and Methods In a cross-sectional design, the radiographic records of 216 type 2 diabetic patients (65.0 ± 10.7 years), 117 men (54.2%) and women (45.8%), were examined. Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) was used to assess glycemic control, considering an HbA1c level < 6.5% as well-controlled diabetes. Apical periodontitis was diagnosed as radiolucent periapical lesions using the periapical index score. The Student t test…

Mechanisms underlying diabetes enhancement of endothelin-1-induced contraction in rabbit basilar artery

2004

The influence of alloxan-induced diabetes on the reactivity of rabbit basilar artery to endothelin-1 was examined. Endothelin-1 induced concentration-dependent contraction of basilar arteries that was higher in diabetic than in control rabbits. Endothelium removal produced a higher enhancement of the endothelin-1-induced contraction in control than in diabetic rabbits. N(G)-nitro-L-arginine (L-NOArg) enhanced the maximal contraction induced by endothelin-1 in control rabbits and potentiated this response in diabetic rabbits. Endothelin ETA receptor antagonist, cyclo(D-Asp-Pro-D-Val-Leu-D-Trp) (BQ-123), inhibited endothelin-1-induced contraction in both rabbit groups. Endothelin ETB receptor…

Efectividad del láser en el tratamiento de úlceras neuropáticas plantares en pie diabetico. Revisión bibliográfica

2018

The diabetic foot is an alteration induced by maintained hyperglycemia independently of the coexistence of ischemia, and previous traumatic trigger, which can produce ulceration of the foot, which supposes a high economic cost. This is the reason why it is essential to accelerate the process of tissue repair, with laser therapy being a very efficient therapeutic resource. The main objective of this work is to assess the effectiveness of the laser in the treatment of diabetic foot neuropathic ulcers. By bibliographic search in PubMed / Medline, Dialnet, Science Direct and Theseus databases, by keywords; diabetic foot, diabetic neuropathy, neuropathic ulcer, treatment and Laser. After conduct…

Non-targeted metabolomic biomarkers and metabotypes of type 2 diabetes: A cross-sectional study of PREDIMED trial participants

2019

Aim. - To characterize the urinary metabolomic fingerprint and multi-metabolite signature associated with type 2 diabetes (T2D), and to classify the population into metabotypes related to T2D. Methods. - A metabolomics analysis using the 1 H-NMR-based, non-targeted metabolomic approach was conducted to determine the urinary metabolomic fingerprint of T2D compared with non-T2D participants in the PREDIMED trial. The discriminant metabolite fingerprint was subjected to logistic regression analysis and ROC analyses to establish and to assess the multi-metabolite signature of T2D prevalence, respectively. Metabotypes associated with T2D were identified using the k-means algorithm. Results. - A …

CLOCK gene variation is associated with incidence of type‑2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases in type‑2 diabetic subjects: dietary modulation in t…

2016

Background: Circadian rhythms regulate key biological processes influencing metabolic pathways. Disregulation is associated with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Circadian rhythms are generated by a transcriptional autoregulatory feedback loop involving core clock genes. CLOCK (circadian locomotor output cycles protein kaput), one of those core genes, is known to regulate glucose metabolism in rodent models. Cross-sectional studies in humans have reported associations between this locus and obesity, plasma glucose, hypertension and T2D prevalence, supporting its role in cardiovascular risk. However, no longitudinal study has investigated the association between CLOCK…

Association of Tryptophan Metabolites with Incident Type 2 Diabetes in the PREDIMED Trial: A Case–Cohort Study

2018

Abstract BACKGROUND Metabolites of the tryptophan–kynurenine pathway (i.e., tryptophan, kynurenine, kynurenic acid, quinolinic acid, 3-hydroxyanthranilic) may be associated with diabetes development. Using a case–cohort design nested in the Prevención con Dieta Mediterránea (PREDIMED) study, we studied the associations of baseline and 1-year changes of these metabolites with incident type 2 diabetes (T2D). METHODS Plasma metabolite concentrations were quantified via LC-MS for n = 641 in a randomly selected subcohort and 251 incident cases diagnosed during 3.8 years of median follow-up. Weighted Cox models adjusted for age, sex, body mass index, and other T2D risk factors were used. RESULTS …
