Palapelin palat paikoilleen –tutkimuksessa Suomeen muuttaneet maahanmuuttajat kertovat kokemuksistaan kotoutumiskoulutuksesta ja sen kehittämistarpeista. Työssä selvitetään millaista pääomaa kotoutumiskoulutus tarjoaa maahanmuuttajille. Työssä kysytään, onko kotoutumiskoulutuksen antama pääoma laadultaan sellaista, että se auttaa maahanmuuttajia saavuttamaan omat henkilökohtaiset tavoitteensa. Tutkimuksessa kysytään myös, ovatko maahanmuuttajat kokeneet, että koulutus ja ohjaus antavat heille mahdollisuuden rakentaa yhdenvertaisia ja dialogisia suhteita suomalaisen yhteiskunnan jäsenenä. Maahanmuuttajataustaisten lääkäreiden ja hoitajien määrä suomalaisessa terveydenhuollossa on kasvanut viime vuosina voimakkaasti. Terveydenhuoltoalalla kieli on keskeisessä osassa työn onnistumisessa, ja siksi on olennaista tutkia maahanmuuttajataustaisten lääkäreiden ja hoitajien kielitaidon kehittymistä. Ammatillisen kielitaidon tutkimus on toisen kielen oppimisen kentällä vielä alussa, mikä tekee tutkimusaiheesta relevantin. Tässä maisterintutkielmassa tutkitaan, minkälaista tukea kaksi maahanmuuttajasairaanhoitajaa ja suomalainen lääkäri ovat antaneet työyhteisönsä maahanmuuttajalääkärille.
