The dialogics of metaphor and simile in Elizabeth Bowen’s The Last September

Metaphors and similes characterise Elizabeth Bowen’s writing. Despite frequent claims that this contributes to the lexical, grammatical and syntactic irregularities of her style and hence makes her writing difficult to understand, I show that her metaphors, similes and literal descriptions in a selected passage from The Last September function within conventional linguistic structures. While my analysis of metaphors and similes is conducted with reference to Bakhtin’s essay “Discourse in the Novel”, I use Martin and Rose’s model of Discourse Analysis (2007) and Steen’s study of metaphor in literature (1999) as practical tools for my analysis of the text. Intenta poner en evidencia un dialogo con el autor frances Marcel Proust, cruzando el discurso proustiano sobre la memoria con el de la experiencia vivida por el personaje principal de la novela en el restaurante Polidor . International audience; In this paper, we examine the international criminal trial of Ahmad al-Faqi al-Mahdi, a Malian Islamist who appeared before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, charged with the destruction of Islamic shrines during the 2012 jihadist occupation of Timbuktu. Nodoma noteikšana dabiskās valodas tekstā ir viena no aktuālajām problēmām, veidojot mākslīgā intelekta (MI) dialogsistēmas. A Conversational Agent to Support Decisions in SimCity like Games

Computational intelligent techniques applied to economics have played an important role in the last years. In this paper we propose a framework based on an intelligent conversational agent embedded with a decision support system, aimed at suggesting the best managing strategies for a game-based model of a virtual town. The agent tries to prospect the future evolutions of particular choices taken by the user. Interaction is conducted through a natural language interface built as an Alice-based conversational agent.
