The mechanism of influence of screen design parameters on the technological process and the particle size distribution of the chopped biomass were determined in this research. The presented engineering solutions make it possible to design the screen for chopping the given biomass material. The modernized construction expands the scope of application of small-sized chopper, especially when used in private farm households. Size control of the chopped material allows to use material as fuel, material for mulching of berry plantations and gardens, material for production of constructional and insulating wood concrete.
Comparative study of the performance of spherical and angular silica and alumina supports in the 1-10-μm size range

Summary Columns packed with four different sets of well characterized packings, spherical silica, angular silica, spherical alumina and angular alumina, varying in mean particle diameter ( d p ) between 1 and 10 μm, were compared. On these columns, the chromatographic permeability ( K 10 ), the column resistance parameter (Φ) and the reduced plate height-velocity dependences were determined under identical and comparable conditions. Discrepancies were found for K 10 and Φ depending on the type of packing and the particle shape. The courses of the h versus v plot, however, were nearly identical for packings with d p > 4 μm, showing a minimum at v ≅ 5 and h = 1.5–2.5 for solutes of k ′ ≅ 0.2 …

Abstract A reduction of the mean particle diameter of silica-based packings in the size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) of proteins to about 5 μm generates the expected increase in column plate number over the traditional 10 μm SEC columns, as demonstrated for the Zorbax Bio Series GF 250 and GF 450 and TSK-Gel 3000 SWXL columns. The slightly lower column efficiency of the TSK-Gel 3000 SWXL compared with the GF 250 column is compensated by the fact that the phase ratio of the 3000 SWXL column is higher by a factor of two. We report an experimental investigation by Raman and infrared (IR) absorption spectroscopies on the structural modifications induced by isochronal thermal treatments on amorphous SiO2 nanoparticles (fumed silica). In particular, three different commercial types of this material, characterized by particle mean diameters of 7, 14, and 40 nm, were subjected to thermal treatments from 100 up to 1000 °C. We present measurements of the angular diameter distance to and Hubble parameter at z = 0.57 from the measurement of the baryon acoustic peak in the correlation of galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey. Our analysis is based on a sample from Data Release 9 of 264 283 galaxies over 3275 square degrees in the redshift range 0.43 z DA(0.57) = 1408 ± 45 Mpc and H(0.57) = 92.9 ± 7.8 km s-1 Mpc-1 for our fiducial value of the sound horizon. The Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) is designed to measure the scale of baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) in the clustering of matter over a larger volume than the combined efforts of all previous spectroscopic surveys of large-scale structure. BOSS uses 1.5 million luminous galaxies as faint as i = 19.9 over 10,000 deg(2) to measure BAO to redshifts z < 0.7. Observations of neutral hydrogen in the Ly alpha forest in more than 150,000 quasar spectra (g < 22) will constrain BAO over the redshift range 2.15 < z < 3.5. Sigma-fragmentability and the property SLD in C(K) spaces
AbstractWe characterize two topological properties in Banach spaces of type C(K), namely, being σ-fragmented by the norm metric and having a countable cover by sets of small local norm-diameter (briefly, the property norm-SLD). We apply our results to deduce that Cp(K) is σ-fragmented by the norm metric when K belongs to a certain class of Rosenthal compacta as well as to characterize the property norm-SLD in Cp(K) in case K is scattered.
