Electrochemical Abatement of Organic Pollutants in Continuous-Reaction Systems through the Assembly of Microfluidic Cells in Series

The electrochemical treatment of wastewater contaminated by organic pollutants was performed under a continuous mode by using, for the first time, various micro-electrochemical cells in series. A synthetic solution of acid orange 7 (AO7), a largely used azoic dye, was chosen as model wastewater. Both the electro-Fenton (EF) method with a cheap compact graphite cathode and electrochemical oxidation (EO) at a boron-doped diamond (BDD) anode were used. EO gave higher abatement of total organic carbon (TOC), but drastically higher energetic consumptions than EF. Measuring International Competitiveness of Romania by Using Porter's Diamond and Revealed Comparative Advantage

Abstract International competitiveness generate a number of challenges because creates profitability for companies, welfare for citizens, sustainable prosperity for the economy as long as it is perceived as a constructive concept. The aim of present paper is to identify the international competitiveness of Romania by analyze the competitive advantage and disadvantage according to Porter‘s Diamond, on one hand, and by calculate revealed comparative advantage according to Balasa, on the other hand. The results show that Romanian has more competitive disadvantage than competitive advantage, even if by comparison with European Union, Romania has some revealed comparative advantage.

Abstract Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA) was the first ribosomopathy identified and is characterized by a moderate to severe, usually macrocytic aregenerative anemia associated with congenital malformations in 50% of the DBA cases. This congenital rare erythroblastopenia is due to a blockade in erythroid differentiation between the BFU-e and CFU-e stages. The diamond partial order in rings

In this paper we introduce a new partial order on a ring, namely the diamond partial order. This order is an extension of a partial order defined in a matrix setting in [J.K. Baksalary and J. Hauke, A further algebraic version of Cochran's theorem and matrix partial orderings, Linear Algebra and its Applications, 127, 157--169, 1990]. We characterize the diamond partial order on rings and study its relationships with other partial orders known in the literature. We also analyze successors, predecessors and maximal elements under the diamond order.

Determination of local defect density in diamond by double electron-electron resonance

Magnetic impurities in diamond influence the relaxation properties and thus limit the sensitivity of magnetic, electric, strain, and temperature sensors based on nitrogen-vacancy color centers. Diamond samples may exhibit significant spatial variations in the impurity concentrations hindering the quantitative analysis of relaxation pathways. Robust optical readout and characterization of nuclear spin transitions in nitrogen-vacancy ensembles in diamond

Nuclear spin ensembles in diamond are promising candidates for quantum sensing applications, including rotation sensing. Here we perform a characterization of the optically detected nuclear-spin transitions associated with the 14N nuclear spin within diamond nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers. We observe nuclear-spin-dependent fluorescence with the contrast of optically detected 14N nuclear Rabi oscillations comparable to that of the NV electron spin. Using Ramsey spectroscopy, we investigate the temperature and magnetic-field dependence of the nuclear spin transitions in the 77.5-420 K and 350-675 G range, respectively. The development of reliable devices to generate single photons is crucial for applications in quantum cryptography, as well as for fundamental quantum optics experiments. Due to their extremely high photostability at room temperature, optically active defects in solids, the so called color centers, are among the most promising candidates. Orbital mapping of carbon thin films by XANES-spectromicroscopy

Abstract A laterally resolved micro-XANES study (X-ray absorption near edge structure) of amorphous carbon, hydrogen terminated CVD-diamond (100) and highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) is presented. The results were obtained by means of a photoemission electron microscope. Using this technique the well-known spectral features of carbon in its different chemical states (sp 2 , sp 3 ) could be recorded. The sp 2 /sp 3 content of the films was extracted from the spectra. Images, taken at X-ray energies corresponding to maxima (π*, C–H*) of the unoccupied density of states in these spectra, map the lateral distribution of the different orbitals at the sample surface.
