Some reflections on semantic–pragmatic cycles

Abstract This paper explores novel ways to consider semantic–pragmatic cycles using a dual strategy: an inwards strategy, whereby the distinctive traits of a pragmatic cycle are established, and an outwards strategy, whereby the categories that delimit semantic–pragmatic cycles are described. The result of this exploration is the distinction between “pragmatic cycle”, “replication”, “concomitance” and “paradigmatic increase” as four different yet related processes. The article deals with a phenomenon of the evolution of dialects. With respect to traditional dialects, the new post-dialectal formations are characterized not so much by the systemic changes but rather by the functional and pragmatic ones; thus, in their defining, those phenomena should be considered. Subjective performance quality obtained in the test-bed was analysed using a network performance monitor tool. In order to evaluate possible services for use in the test-bed, a comprehensive survey was conducted. The survey revealed that a variety of categorization methods for electronic services exist.
