A Difficult Case of Necrotizing Fasciitis Caused By Acinetobacter baumannii

2010

This study reports the case of a 55-year-old woman with diabetes with a necrotizing fasciitis of the right lower limb and the perineum, first admitted at the emergency department for septic shock with cardiac arrest, and later transferred to the department of surgery. Microbiological and histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis caused by Acinetobacter baumanii. A broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy was administered and later readjusted according to the results of microbiological culture. Intensive hemodynamic support was required. Wounds were dressed daily with a 3 percent boric acid solution and a silver sulfadiazine-impregnated dressing. An extensive s…

Proteomic evaluation of potentiated sulfa treatment on gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata L.) liver

2013

Potentiated sulfa drugs are a combination of sulfonamide and pyrimidine potentiators. They are currently used against fish bacterial pathogens in Mediterranean marine fish farming. The present work aimed studying the potential hepatotoxicity of a combination of sulfadiazine (SDZ) and trimethoprim (TMP) in gilthead sea bream juveniles after oral administration, at the recommended ratio of 5: 1 (SDZ/TMP), equivalent to a dose of 30 mg kg(-1) fish day(-1), for 10 days at 19 degrees C temperature. Electrophoresis (DIGE) technology coupled with MS was used to identify possible markers of hepatotoxicity of this treatment. The results obtained show significant changes in the expression of 41 prote…

FI-chemiluminometric study of thiazides by on-line photochemical reaction

2004

The present manuscript deals with a simple and sensitive flow-injection method for the chemiluminescent determination of thiazides. The method is based on the on-line photodegradation and chemiluminescent determination of the resulting photo-fragments. The on-line photodegradation is performed in basic medium by using a photoreactor consisting of a 550 cm long x 0.8 mm ID piece of PTFE tubing helically coiled around an 8 W low-pressure mercury lamp. The determination of the photo-irradiated thiazides is performed by a chemiluminescent oxidative reaction with Ce(IV) in sulphuric acid medium. A heterogeneous group of thiazides (indapamide, metolazone, hydroflumethiazide, chlorthalidone and be…

Continuous-flow spectrophotometric determination of sulfadiazine by diazotisation with in situ preparation of nitrite

1995

Abstract Nitrite is prepared in situ for the determination of sulfadiazine. The method is based on solid-phase reduction of copperized cadmium of nitrate; the nitrite reagent merges with the sample stream in hydrochloric acid medium and the resulting mixture is injected into the water carrier, pure distilled water, and then merges with the N-(1-naphthyl)ethylendiamine reagent and is measured spectrophotometrically at 542.0 nm. The calibration graph is linear over the range 0.5–50 μg ml−1 sulfadiazine, mid-range R.S.D. = 0.3% (n = 5) and sample throughput 72 h−1. The procedure is applied to sulfadiazine determination in a pharmaceutical formulation and to in vitro dissolution studies of two …

Trinuclear N,N-Bridged Copper(II) Complexes Involving a Cu3OH Core:  [Cu3(μ3-OH)L3A(H2O)2]A·(H2O)x {L = 3-Acetylamino-1,2,4-triazolate; A = CF3SO3, N…

2000

The reaction of Haat [Haat = (3-acetylamino-1,2,4-triazole)] with aquated Cu(CF3SO3)2, Cu(NO3)2, and Cu(ClO4)2, respectively, in water results in the trinuclear complexes [Cu3(OH)(aat)3(CF3SO3)(H2O)2](CF3SO3) (1), [Cu3(OH)(aat)3(NO3)(H2O)2](NO3).(H2O)2 (2), and [Cu3(OH)(aat)3(ClO4)(H2O)2](ClO4) (3). The synthesis, X-ray structure, and magnetic and spectroscopic properties of the three title complexes are described. The cation of the three complexes is trinuclear with a Cu3OH skeleton which has the N-N diazine grouping of a triazole ring as bridge between each pair of copper atoms. The Cu3OH units have an average Cu-O distance of 1.991(6) (1), 2.000(6) (2), and 2.007(6) (3) A, an average Cu-…

Synthesis, crystal structure, electrochemical and magnetic properties of (NBu4)[ReCl5(L)] with L=pyrimidine and pyridazine

2008

Abstract Two novel rhenium(IV) compounds, namely (NBu4)[ReCl5(pym)] (1) and (NBu4)[ReCl5(pyd)] (2) (pym = pyrimidine, pyd = pyridazine and NBu4 = n-tetrabutylammonium cation), have been obtained by reaction of [ReCl6]2− and the diazine in dmf, and their crystal structures determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The structures of 1 and 2 consist of [ReCl5(pym)]− or [ReCl5(pyd)]− anions and NBu 4 + cations held together by electrostatic forces and van der Waals interactions. Stacking interactions are present only in 1. The coordination sphere of the ReIV ion is defined by five chloride anions and one nitrogen atom of a monodentate diazine, resulting in a distorted octahedral environme…

The influence of substitution in the quinoxaline nucleus on 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions: A DFT study

2013

Abstract The reaction mechanism of 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions of both symmetric and unsymmetric benzo-condensed diazines with a nitrilimine dipole, to give two different mono- and bis-cycloadducts, in tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution, was studied by DFT calculations. The results obtained show that each 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction always proceeds by a two steps mechanism, in which the first intermediate shows only one covalent bond between the beta carbon of the nitrilimine and the aromatic nitrogen of the diazine molecule. The structure and energy content of the two transition states of the two cycloaddition steps, in the case of the unsymmetric benzo-condensed diazine, nicely explains…
