The article presents the results of studies aimed at evaluating the level of lexicological and lexical competence of middle school students, and the results of a study of school determinants of this competence assessed through surveys, interviews and in‑class observation. The level of lexicological competence was evaluated as good, whereas the textual examination revealed lexical competence to be lower and more varied. W artykule stawia się pytanie o sposób sprawdzania wiedzy o języku podczas egzaminu gimnazjalnego. Przyjęto założenie, że egzaminom przysługuje funkcja systemotwórcza – profile zadań egzaminacyjnych stają się modelowymi przykładami praktyki edukacyjnej, mają wpływ na organizację procesu dydaktycznego oraz na strukturę efektów kształcenia. This papers presents a practical work model as well as an educational theory discussion on the status and potential of art work in teaching and learning math in early childhood education. The central idea is to let the child’s free creative art activity reveal, or “teach”, whatever mathematical thinking was inherent in the creative process.
