Diastereoselective synthesis of fluorinated, seven-membered beta-amino acid derivatives via ring-closing metathesis.

2003

[reaction: see text] Cis and trans seven-membered gamma,gamma-difluorinated beta-amino acid derivatives (III) have been prepared with a sequence that starts with imidoyl halides (I), which are condensed with suitable ester enolates to give intermediates (II). These, in turn, can be cyclized by means of a ring-closing olefin metathesis reaction and the product stereoselectively reduced to yield compounds (III) in good overall yields.

Thermoanalytical studies on an order-disorder transition resulting from supramolecular organization of hydrogen bond motifs in an unpolar (polymer-) matrix are reported. Functional groups having two potential sites for hydrogen bonding (4-carboxyphenylarazole) are located statistically along the polybutadiene backbone. Multistep hydrogen bond formation leads to the formation of association chains whose lengths can be controlled by addition of monofunctional groups (phenylurazole) like in conventional stepgrowth polymers. The association chain length is estimated from the variation of transition enthalpy and «melting» temperature

Dilute solution properties of polybutadiene modified by 4-phenyl-1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-dione

1996

The dilute solution properties of 4-phenyl-1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-dione-modified polybutadienes were studied in tetrahydrofuran by static and dynamic light scattering and compared with those from unmodified polybutadiene chains. For the unmodified polymer, the scaling laws were established and the coil interpenetration parameter k f0 was determined in the thermodynamically good solvent tetrahydrofuran ; the chains exhibited common flexible chain behavior. For the modified polybutadiene, the results indicate at infinite dilution a weak extent of intermolecular crosslinking via the urazole groups, coupled with a very high extent of intramolecular ring formation. In order to evaluate the fractio…

Cooperative structure formation by combination of covalent and association chain polymers: 4. Designing functional groups for supramolecular structur…

1991

Abstract A small number of polar functional groups are attached to polybutadiene by a polymer analogous reaction. Depending on their molecular structure, different degrees of supramolecular ordering result from the aggregation of these polar groups. In the case of phenylurazole units, which carry a single site for hydrogen-bond complexation, binary contacts are formed; whereas linear association chain structures are formed in the case of polybutadiene carrying phenylurazole units additionally substituted with a carboxy group in meta or para positions of the phenyl ring. In the latter case, association chains aggregate cooperatively to an ordered supramolecular structure. The different struc…

Poly(phosphonate)-mediated Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons reactions

2015

A novel, general protocol for a polymer-mediated Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons (HWE) reaction is reported. The polyvalent polymeric reagent was prepared via acyclic diene metathesis (ADMET) polymerization. Homo- and copolymers of reactive poly(phosphonate)s with molecular weights up to 40 000 g·mol−1 and molecular weight dispersities Đ < 2 were successfully synthesized. Subsequent application of these polymers in the HWE reaction to prepare a library of aromatic α,β-unsaturated ketones (chalcons) has proven to be an efficient synthetic pathway to minimize purification efforts, as the polymeric side-product can be removed by simple precipitation. In this paper we also demonstrate for the first tim…

A comparison of neutron scattering studies and computer simulations of polymer melts

2000

Abstract Neutron scattering and computer simulations are powerful tools for studying structural and dynamical properties of condensed matter systems in general and of polymer melts in particular. When neutron scattering studies and quantitative atomistic molecular dynamics simulations of the same material are combined, synergy between the methods can result in exciting new insights into polymer melts not obtainable from either method separately. We present here an overview of our recent efforts to combine neutron scattering and atomistic simulations in the study of melt dynamics of polyethylene and polybutadiene. Looking at polymer segmental motion on a picosecond time scale, we show how at…

A coarse-graining procedure for polymer melts applied to 1,4-polybutadiene

2009

We present a coarse-graining procedure for homopolymer melts mapping intra- as well as inter-molecular interactions from a chemically realistic united atom description to a bead-spring type molecular model. On the coarse-grained level the repeat units interact through bond-length and bond angle potentials and a non-bonded Lennard-Jones type interaction. The latter one is of the 7,4 form and softer than the typically employed 12,6 interactions. The coarse-graining of the intramolecular interactions follows well developed procedures, however, we point out in which way the non-bonded intramolecular interactions in the chemically realistic model should be treated. The parameters of the non-bond…

A study on the aminomercuration-nucleophilic demercuration of --1,5-cyclooctadiene; stereoselective synthesis of 2,6-disubstituted-9-aza bicyclo[3.3.…

1992

Abstract The aminomercuration of cis - cis -1,5-Cyclooctadiene with a series of mercury(II) salts followed by nucleophilic displacement of mercury by aromatic amines, water and nitrate ion has been studied. As a result, bicyclic triamines, aminoalcohols and nitrate esters have been obtained respectively in clean processes which occur under total stereoelectronic control by involvement of a tricyclic aziridium ion to afford a single stereoisomer in each case. The influence of the counter ion and the basicity of the amine on the tandem aminomercuration-demercuration is discussed.

ChemInform Abstract: Asymmetric Synthesis of Bicyclic Amino Acid Derivatives by Aza-Diels- Alder Reactions in Aqueous Solution.

2010

Derivatives 7–10 and 13–16 of methyl and ethyl 2-azabicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-3-carboxylates are synthesized by Aza-Diels-Alder reactions of chiral iminium ions, formed in situ from glyoxylic acid and chiral amines, with cyclopentadiene. Whereas the heterodienophiles derived from phenylglycinol and esters of sterically more demanding amino acids fail to undergo asymmetric cycloadditions, with alanine methyl ester and (R)-1-phenylethylamine hydrochoride the cycloadducts are formed in yields of 15 and 52%, respectively, reaching de values of up to 90:10 for the exo isomers.

Molecular modeling studies of interactions between styrene–butadiene latex and sodium polyacrylate polymer surface

2010

Abstract The interaction between two important paper coating ingredients, sodium polyacrylate polymer dispersing agent and styrene–butadiene latex binder, was studied using classical force field and quantum chemical methods. The objective was to understand the adsorption of styrene–butadiene latex on the sodium polyacrylate polymer model surfaces at 300 K using molecular dynamics simulations. A quantum mechanical ab initio Hartree–Fock method was also used to obtain detailed information about the above interactions. In addition, the effect of moisture was investigated. Calculations showed that the conformation and orientation of styrene–butadiene latex, the number of carboxylate groups in t…
