Background Immediate dentin sealing (IDS) with proanthocyanidin (PA) could be used before cementation with a self-adhesive (SA) cement. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of PA treatment on acid-etched dentin before adhesive application, in IDS and delayed dentin sealing (DDS), on the strengthening property of SA-cemented composite resin inlay in premolars. Annihilation Operators for Exponential Spaces in Subdivision

We investigate properties of differential and difference operators annihilating certain finite-dimensional subspaces of exponential functions in two variables that are connected to the representation of real-valued trigonometric and hyperbolic functions. Although exponential functions appear in a variety of contexts, the motivation behind this work comes from considering subdivision schemes with the capability of preserving those exponential functions required for an exact description of surfaces parametrized in terms of trigonometric and hyperbolic functions.
Dynamic daylight simulations: Impact of weather file’s choice

Abstract This paper is the second step of a research project aimed at investigating the impact of the use of different weather data files on daylight simulations’ results. Simulations were carried out for a simple standalone office using three weather files (IWEC, Meteonorm and Satel-Light) for two European locations (Copenhagen and Rome); moreover the office’s exposure was changed according to the four main orientations (North, East, South and West). Pac-Man Josephson junctions: Useful trigonometric puzzles?

Abstract Rather interesting trigonometric equations arise when considering a Josephson junction obtained by embedding a Pac-Man shaped superconducting island in between two superconducting electrodes. In the present work we unfold these equations, written in terms of the superconducting phase difference between the two electrodes, and find the current-phase relation and the maximum superconducting current of the Josephson junction network. The solution of the trigonometric equations defining the superconducting current state of the system can be proposed to advanced high-school students or to undergraduate students in an interdisciplinary lecture.
Land surface emissivity retrieval from different VNIR and TIR sensors

This paper discusses the application and adaptation of two existing operational algorithms for land surface emissivity (epsiv) retrieval from different operational satellite/airborne sensors with bands in the visible and near-infrared (VNIR) and thermal IR (TIR) regions: (1) the temperature and emissivity separation algorithm, which retrieves epsiv only from TIR data and (2) the normalized-difference vegetation index thresholds method, in which epsiv is retrieved from VNIR data.

[1] A study has been carried out on the most recent algorithms for the estimation of land surface emissivity (e) using high-resolution data (Digital Airborne Imaging Spectrometer, DAIS) over the Rhine Valley (France) and Castilla La Mancha (Spain). Three published methods have been applied for extracting absolute spectral emissivity information from images recorded during the DAISEX experiment in 1999. They are NDVI Thresholds Method (NDVITHM), Normalized Emissivity Method (NEM) and Temperature/Emissivity Separation (TES). Land surface emissivity retrieval from airborne sensor over urban areas

Abstract In this paper we compare three different methodologies to retrieve land surface emissivity (LSE) over urban areas: the NDVI thresholds method, the temperature and emissivity separation (TES) algorithm and the temperature independent spectral indices (TISI) algorithm. The methodologies were applied to the Airborne Hyperspectral Scanner (AHS) imagery acquired during the Dual-use European Security IR Experiment 2008 (DESIREX 2008) experimental campaign over the city of Madrid (Spain). The images have a spatial resolution of 4 m. The retrieved values are compared to in situ data measured during the campaign at 4 sites. “Does English make you nervous?” Anxiety profiles of CLIL and non-CLIL students in Sweden

This study aims to explore the relationship between Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) vs. non-CLIL students and language learning anxiety. As part of a larger research project, this study is conducted at the high school level in Sweden and includes students enrolled in CLIL programs (N=109) and non-CLIL programs (N=68) at three different schools. While both CLIL and non-CLIL groups study English as a separate subject, the difference between the two groups is that part of the curriculum is taught through the medium of English in the CLIL programs.
