Perceived differences between natural and convolution reverberation types in 5.0 surround sound

This Graduate Thesis investigates the perceived differences between natural and convolution reverberation in surround sound. Two spaces with distinct reverberation times were used for this study. Initially three musical excerpts from three instruments (Cello, Oboe, and Piano) were recorded in a dry studio environment. Then the Impulse Response (IR) of the spaces was captured using two methods: balloon burst and sine sweep. The dry excerpts were then recorded in the spaces to capture the natural reverberation pattern while the IRs were convolved with them to create the artificial reverberation excerpts. It is not known to what extent the automatic encoding and change detection of peripherally presented facial emotion is altered in dysphoria. The negative bias in automatic face processing in particular has rarely been studied. We used magnetoencephalography (MEG) to record automatic brain responses to happy and sad faces in dysphoric (Beck’s Depression Inventory ≥ 13) and control participants. Depression, for instance, has been shown to relate to music use that is characterized by rumination, avoidance, and mood worsening. Deceit and facial expression in children: the enabling role of the “poker face” child and the dependent personality of the detector

This study presents the relation between the facial expression of a group of children when they told a lie and the accuracy in detecting the lie by a sample of adults. To evaluate the intensity and type of emotional content of the children’s faces, we applied an automated method capable of analyzing the facial information from the video recordings (FaceReader 5.0 software). The program classified videos as showing a neutral facial expression or an emotional one. Effects of conversation content on viewing dyadic conversations

People typically follow conversations closely with their gaze. We asked whether this viewing is influenced by what is actually said in the conversation and by the viewer’s psychological condition. We recorded the eye movements of healthy (N = 16) and depressed (N = 25) participants while they were viewing video clips. Each video showed two people, each speaking one line of dialogue about socio-emotionally important (i.e., personal) or unimportant topics (matter-of-fact). Abstract Although many studies have demonstrated an influence of uniform colors on sports performance, there are still more questions than answers regarding this issue. In our study, participants from Poland (N = 147) and China (N = 143) watched a two-minute video of a semi-professional boxing match. The participants viewed six different versions of the same fight - the original was modified to change the colors of the boxers’ trunks (red vs. blue, blue vs. red, blue vs. black, black vs. blue, red vs. black, and black vs. red).
