Preparation and characterisation of TiO2 (anatase) supported on TiO2 (rutile) catalysts employed for 4-nitrophenol photodegradation in aqueous medium…

1999

Abstract In this paper the preparation of two sets of polycrystalline photocatalysts prepared by supporting TiO2 (anatase) on TiO2 (rutile) or Al2O3 is reported. The powders were prepared by a wet impregnation method using titanium(IV) isopropylate. The impregnation was followed by thermal treatment and this procedure was repeated several times in order to obtain samples with progressively increasing amounts of TiO2 (anatase). The photocatalytic activity of all of the specimens was tested by carrying out the 4-nitrophenol photodegradation, used as a “probe” reaction, in aqueous medium and in different kinds of batch photoreactors. The solids were characterised by X-ray diffraction (XRD), sp…

Combined Adsorption/Photocatalytic dye removal by copper-titania-fly ash composite

2020

Abstract Achieving both photocatalytic efficiency and adsorption capacity is essential to produce a highly efficient photocatalyst. This study fabricated a new photocatalyst by combining copper (Cu) doped titanium dioxide (TiO2) with fly ash (FA). The photocatalysts were synthesized using mild acid (acid-FA/Cu/TiO2), base (base-FA/Cu/TiO2), and deionized water (rFA/Cu/TiO2) activated FA. EDX confirmed the inclusion of Cu in both Cu/TiO2 and FA/Cu/TiO2 composites. XRD analysis indicated the presence of the anatase form of TiO2 after Cu doping and incorporation into modified FA. All three FA/Cu/TiO2 composites demonstrated high absorption (UV and visible region) compared to their TiO2 and Cu/…

Effect of the addition of different doping agents on visible light activity of porous TiO2 photocatalysts

2018

Abstract The influence of the addition of different doping agents (N, W and Hf) on the macroporous TiO2 photoactivity toward the Rhodamine B degradation and ethanol photo-oxidation was evaluated. The samples were characterized by XRD, XPS, SEM, TEM, N2 adsorption-desorption, UV–vis Diffuse Reflectance and Photoluminescence spectroscopies to study also the changes in the physico-chemical properties due to the presence of dopants. The photonic effect and the high ordered porous structure of the macroporous TiO2 that lead to increase the path length of the light, were the key factors that allow to enhance the catalytic activity towards the dye and VOC degradation under visible and solar light …

Special Issue “Smart Urban Lighting Systems”

2020

The design and operation of multifunctional infrastructures for public lighting as well as their impact on the urban environment and citizens’ life is today of great interest. The cost of energy for public lighting is often an issue for the budget of municipalities. Furthermore, researchers’ and designers’ attention is increasingly focused on aspects of public lighting not directly valuable through economic factors. Starting from the “quality” of the light environment, looking at citizens’ visual comfort, the light has to be considered as an instrument to improve the urban context and objects therein (including buildings). Indeed, urban degradation (lack of infrastructures, maintenance, ser…

Imaging in the catheterization laboratory

1993

Recent work confirms that visual assessment of the effect of widely employed coronary interventions is highly inaccurate. Rapid and reliable on-line angiographic quantitation is a useful advance, but problems in the application of the technique are encountered in a substantial number of cases. New algorithms have been devised to provide a comprehensive assessment of the geometry and likely functional significance of lesions as well as an objective evaluation of lesion morphology, and recent work has provided the framework for the quantitation of diffuse disease. Studies with intravascular ultrasound confirm the inadequate sensitivity of angiography in demonstrating mild to moderate atheroma…

The Flux Density of Radiation Energy Originating from the Circumsolar Sky Measured at Groundbased Stations

1983

The aim of this project was the measurement of the radiant energy flux provided by the diffuse radiation of the ring shaped area of the sky around the unmasked sun disk. More than 200 measurements of the irradiance of this circumsolar cloudy or cloudfree sky up to an angular radius of 10° had been taken at Mainz (FRG), Deuselbach (FRG) and Adrano (Sicily). The measurements show that the irradiance of the circumsolar sky radiation may reach an amount of more then 30 % of the direct solar irradiance at the observation site. This means, optical systems combining the direct solar radiation and the circumsolar radiation may compensate — at least partly — the extinction losses of the direct solar…

An overview of and issues with sky radiometer technology and SKYNET

2020

This paper is an overview of the progress in sky radiometer technology and the development of the network called SKYNET. It is found that the technology has produced useful on-site calibration methods, retrieval algorithms, and data analyses from sky radiometer observations of aerosol, cloud, water vapor, and ozone. A formula was proposed for estimating the accuracy of the sky radiometer calibration constant F0 using the improved Langley (IL) method, which was found to be a good approximation to observed monthly mean uncertainty in F0, around 0.5 % to 2.4 % at the Tokyo and Rome sites and smaller values of around 0.3 % to 0.5 % at the mountain sites at Mt. Sarasw…

CK2β-regulated signaling controls B cell differentiation and function

2023

Serine-Threonine kinase CK2 supports malignant B-lymphocyte growth but its role in B-cell development and activation is largely unknown. Here, we describe the first B-cell specific knockout (KO) mouse model of the β regulatory subunit of CK2. CK2βKO mice present an increase in marginal zone (MZ) and a reduction in follicular B cells, suggesting a role for CK2 in the regulation of the B cell receptor (BCR) and NOTCH2 signaling pathways. Biochemical analyses demonstrate an increased activation of the NOTCH2 pathway in CK2βKO animals, which sustains MZ B-cell development. Transcriptomic analyses indicate alterations in biological processes involved in immune response and B-cell activation. Upo…

ABCL-346: Overall Survival with Tafasitamab + Lenalidomide (LEN) vs Routinely Administered Therapies for ASCT-Ineligible Relapsed or Refractory (R/R)…

2021

Context Tafasitamab+LEN, a chemotherapy-free, novel treatment for R/R DLBCL, demonstrated efficacy in ASCT-ineligible patients in the single-arm Phase II L-MIND study (NCT02399085). Objective To compare outcomes in patients treated with tafasitamab+LEN in the L-MIND study with matched patient populations treated with commonly administered NCCN-/ESMO-recommended therapies for non-transplant-eligible patients with R/R DLBCL in routine clinical practice. Design RE-MIND2 (NCT04150328) is an observational, retrospective cohort study. The L-MIND tafasitamab+LEN cohort was matched with RE-MIND2 patients using estimated propensity score-based 1:1 nearest neighbor matching balanced for nine patient …

A solid device based on doped hybrid composites for controlling the dosage of the biocide N-(3-aminopropyl)-N-dodecyl-1,3-propanediamine in industria…

2015

A colorimetric composite device is proposed to determine the widely used biocide N-(3-aminopropyl)-N-dodecyl-1,3-propanediamine (ADP).This sensing device is based on a film of 1,2-Naphthoquinone-4-sulfonate (NQS) embedded into polydimethylsiloxane-tetraethylortosilicate-SiO2 nanoparticles composite (PDMS-TEOS-SiO2NPs). Semiquantitative analysis can be performed by visual inspection. Digitalized image or diffuse reflectance (DR) measurements can be carried out for quantitative analysis. Satisfactory detection limit (0.018%, w/v) and relative standard deviations <12% were achieved. The proposed device has been applied for the determination of ADP in detergent industrial formulations with reco…
