Thermal diffusivity measurements for Mg-Mn ferrites

Abstract The thermal diffusivity of Mg-Mn ferrites is studied through a modified scheme of the photothermal deflection method able to derive the diffusivity of low-diffusivity samples and to avoid any influence of the vertical offset parameter. The examined samples have been realized under different preparation conditions producing different grain dimensions, and a negligible influence of the grain dimensions is found on the thermal properties.

Dominance of Chain Entanglement over Transient Sticking on Chain Dynamics in Hydrogen-Bonded Supramolecular Polymer Networks in the Melt

The chain dynamics in supramolecular polymer networks is determined by the interplay of the kinetics of transient interchain association and relaxation of the network chains themselves. This interplay can be addressed by studying model supramolecular polymer networks in which the number of associative side groups and the molar mass of the covalently jointed backbone polymers are both varied systematically. Nanoparticle dynamics in semidilute polymer solutions: Rings versus linear chains

We study the dynamics of nanoparticles in semidilute solutions of ring and linear polymers using hybrid molecular dynamics–multiparticle collision dynamics simulations. The dynamics of the monomers, the polymer centers-of-mass, and the nanoparticles coincide for these two architectures for solutions of the same monomer concentration. The long time diffusivities of the nanoparticles follow the predictions of a polymer coupling theory [Cai et al., Macromolecules 44, 7853–7863 (2011)], suggesting that nanoparticle dynamics are coupled to segmental relaxations for both polymer architectures examined here. Numerical models of heat and moisture transfer for performance forecast of lightweight insulating assemblies require many inputs. These include exterior climate data (i.e. temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation), interior climate data or standard models, transfer coefficients, correct initial conditions, etc. Most importantly, one needs reliable material models. Ethyl hexanoate transfer in paper and plastic food packaging by sorption and permeation experiments

The barrier properties of one treated paper packaging and one standard plastic film (bi-oriented polypropylene, biOPP) were assessed for ethyl hexanoate. Three methods based either on sorption (gravimetry and micro-atmosphere-derived method) or permeation kinetic determination were used in controlled conditions of aroma vapor concentration (107 Pa), temperature (25 degrees C) and relative humidity (about 0 %). Ethyl hexanoate solubility values were on the same range of magnitude for both packaging films in spite of their different nature and composition. Infection-induced chromatin modifications facilitate translocation of herpes simplex virus capsids to the inner nuclear membrane

Herpes simplex virus capsids are assembled and packaged in the nucleus and move by diffusion through the nucleoplasm to the nuclear envelope for egress. Analyzing their motion provides conclusions not only on capsid transport but also on the properties of the nuclear environment during infection. We utilized live-cell imaging and single-particle tracking to characterize capsid motion relative to the host chromatin. The data indicate that as the chromatin was marginalized toward the nuclear envelope it presented a restrictive barrier to the capsids.
