Abstract Objective Dental hypersensitivity has become one of the most common and most costly diseases in the world, even though those maladies are very rarely life threatening. Using amorphous microparticles, fabricated from the natural polymer (polyphosphate), we intend to reseal the dentinal tubules exposed and reduce by that the hypersensitivity. Methods Amorphous microparticles (termed aCa-polyP-MP) were prepared from Na-polyphosphate (polyP) and CaCl 2 , then incubated with human teeth. Confinement-induced polymorphism in acetylsalicylic acid–nanoporous glass composites

We report on the experimental observation of confinement-induced new phase appearance in acetylsalicylic acid (ASA)–porous glass (PG) composites. In this study, ASA was embedded in PG host matrices of various pore widths (15–200 nm). The Raman spectra and positron annihilation lifetime measurements exhibit the existence of ASA nanocrystals in the PG matrix. The DSC data revealed that the melting temperature TM and excess specific heat decrease with decreasing the size of embedded ASA nanocrystals. Maxillary sinus septa : A systematic review

This review analyzes articles published on the presence of septa in maxillary sinuses. An automated search was conducted on PubMed using different key words. This search resulted in 11 papers in which the presence of antral septa was assessed. These septa are barriers of cortical bone that arise from the floor or from the walls of the sinus and may even divide the sinus into two or more cavities. They may originate during maxillary development and tooth growth, in which case they are known as primary septa; or they may be acquired structures resulting from the pneumatization of maxillary sinus after tooth loss, in which case they are called secondary septa. The DNA repair protein O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) removes alkyl groups from the O6 position of guanine in DNA and thus may protect cells against genotoxic effects of agents inducing this lesion. Abstract This study demonstrates that the expression of the phenol UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 1 gene (UGT1A1) is regulated at the transcriptional level by thyroid hormone in rat liver. Following 3,5,3′-triiodo-l-thyronine (T3) stimulation in vivo, there is a gradual increase in the amount of UGT1A1 mRNA with maximum levels reached 24 h after treatment. In comparison, induction with the specific inducer, 3-methylcholanthrene (3-MC), results in maximal levels of UGT1A1 mRNA after 8 h of treatment. Duodenal and antral mucosal biopsy specimens were obtained from 139 patients with dyspeptic complaints to study the prevalence and extent of gastric metaplasia in the duodenal bulb in relation to Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) infection and duodenal ulcer disease. On logistic regression, the presence and extent of gastric metaplasia was not significantly associated with H pylori infection. The prevalence of gastric metaplasia, however, was found to be higher in patients with current or past evidence of duodenal ulcer disease in comparison with subjects with functional dyspepsia (p = 0.01).
