Pathological voice analysis via digital signal processing

2015

The interest in pathological voice analysis for specific neurological diseases is growing up aiming to offer more Health-care tele monitoring services since new high performing electronic devices are available for the end-user. In this article we show some parameters that can be digitally extracted and analyzed from pathological voices, in order to find a distinctive sign of the Parkinson disease. As a result, we will show a parameter that gives some information about the Parkinson disease characterization, particularly for male patients. We will also discuss about the needed computational cost related to parameters extraction and elaboration, aiming to target a possible tough yet portable …

Inverse Scattering Solutions with Applications to Electromagnetic Signal Processing

2009

When a signal is recorded that has been physically generated by some scattering process (the interaction of electromagnetic, acoustic or elastic waves with inhomogeneous materials, for example), the ‘standard model’ for the signal (i.e. information content convolved with a characteristic Impulse Response Function) is usually based on a single scattering approximation. An additive noise term is introduced into the model to take into account a range of non-deterministic factors including multiple scattering that, along with electronic noise and other background noise sources, is assumed to be relatively weak. Thus, the standard model is based on a ‘weak field condition’ and the inverse scatte…

Digital signal processing for relaxation data conversion

2005

Abstract The origins, philosophy and basic practical aspects are considered for an approach of digital data transformations for broadband dielectric relaxation spectroscopy and other relaxation experiments carrying out direct and inverse integral transforms with kernels depending on the ratio or product of arguments. The approach is based on the concept that the mentioned data transformations represent a filtering problem on a logarithmic scale allowing one to implement the transforms by digital functional filters with the logarithmic sampling. As an example, digital Kramers–Kronig transformers are considered.

Energy resolution and throughput of a new real time digital pulse processing system for x-ray and gamma ray semiconductor detectors

2013

New generation spectroscopy systems have advanced towards digital pulse processing (DPP) approaches. DPP systems, based on direct digitizing and processing of detector signals, have recently been favoured over analog pulse processing electronics, ensuring higher flexibility, stability, lower dead time, higher throughput and better spectroscopic performance. In this work, we present the performance of a new real time DPP system for X-ray and gamma ray semiconductor detectors. The system is based on a commercial digitizer equipped with a custom DPP firmware, developed by our group, for on-line pulse shape and height analysis. X-ray and gamma ray spectra measurements with cadmium telluride (Cd…

Design and Implementation of a Low-cost Embedded Iris Recognition System on a Dual-core Processor Platform

2012

Abstract Design of a low-cost embedded iris recognition system is described in this paper. Firstly, we develop a simple and effective iris image acquisition unit, which is cheap and easy to use. This is achieved by both of hardware design and image evaluation algorithm development. Secondly, the iris recognition algorithm is introduced, including iris segmentation, image normalization, feature extraction, and code matching. The algorithm implementation architecture is based on an embedded dual-core processor platform, Texas Instruments TMS320DM6446 evaluation module (Davinci), which contains an ARM core and a DSP core in one chip. Thirdly, the evaluation experiments are performed on the est…

Real-time acquisition of wideband signals data using non-uniform sampling

2009

Wideband signal acquisition often faces a problem of bulk data recording. It is a critical factor in real-time systems. The paper discusses an approach that deals with this problem incorporating Digital Alias-free Signal Processing and Virtual Instrumentation technologies. Such combination is advantageous for real-time applications and useful in the development of measurement and software defined radio systems. Non-uniform sampling technique allows considerably decrease the data of wideband signals so, that they can be transferred in real-time to a typical PC through high-speed PCI Express communication interface. The experimental prototype system has been developed and obtained results are…

Unificación de enseñanzas relacionadas con el Tratamiento Digital de Señales en la Universitat de València

2011

Teaching Digital Signal Processing (DSP) at the University of Valencia takes place in several subjects with a great overlap in contents. This work proposes an approach to unify DSP contents, so that it is possible to extract the contents corresponding with each subject. Moreover, the proposal is based on a repository that contains the common contents; the repository is hosted on a virtual learning environment, being Moodle and DotLRN the two platforms under study. The final implemented solution consists in an HTMLrepository formed by a number of basic teaching units. These basic units are packaged in a standard IMS-CP format, making up the materials of the different subjects.

Algorithms for the ROD DSP of the ATLAS Hadronic Tile Calorimeter

2007

In this paper we present the performance of two algorithms currently running in the Tile Calorimeter Read-Out Driver boards for the commissioning of ATLAS. The first algorithm presented is the so called Optimal Filtering. It reconstructs the deposited energy in the Tile Calorimeter and the arrival time of the data. The second algorithm is the MTag which tags low transverse momentum muons that may escape the ATLAS muon spectrometer first level trigger. Comparisons between online (inside the Read-Out Drivers) and offline implementations are done with an agreement around 99% for the reconstruction of the amplitude using the Optimal Filtering algorithm and a coincidende of 93% between the offli…

Auto-Adaptive Trigger and Pulse Extraction for Digital Processing in Nuclear Instrumentation

2015

International audience; This paper presents a novel auto-adaptive method for pulse triggering and extraction. Pulse triggering uses a threshold that must be placed as close as possible to the noise level. We do this by means of an adaptive threshold level based on real-time noise level estimation. A dynamic estimation of the pulse length is also used for pulse selection. The proposed approach is largely insensitive to noise and enables autonomous extraction of pulses regardless of their shape, height or length. The proposed approach can be used with numerous types of detectors from an analog-to-digital converter, and can be used in conjunction with various pulse processing techniques such a…
