Virtual/Digital and Internet-based Machining

2008

This chapter provides comprehensive knowledge regarding the application of various virtual digital and information techniques to machining processes and machine tools, and their simulation and visualization. A number of manufacturing concepts used in modern industry, such as Internet-based manufacturing, digital manufacturing, virtual manufacturing and telemanufacturing, are characterized. In particular, architectures of digital manufacturing and virtual manufacturing, along with their practical applications, are presented. The architecture of the virtual machine tool and numerous examples of simulations of machining process performing on multi-axis/multitasking are visualized. Moreover, vi…

Two photogrammetric methods for measuring flat elements in buildings under construction

2008

Usually, determining the dimensions of flat surfaces in buildings under construction, such as window cavities and facade coating materials, are done by direct measuring methods using tapes and plummets. Sometimes these methods suppose a slow and highly risky work for operators. This research proposes the substitution of these procedures by indirect methods based on close range photogrammetry and laser distance measurement. First, we show the design, construction and calibration of a system composed by a digital camera and a lasermeter mounted on a support with multiple turning positions. Next, two different facade element measuring methodologies are shown. The first method is based on takin…

A DSP-Based Resolver-To-Digital Converter for High-Performance Electrical Drive Applications

2016

This paper presents a low cost, simple, and highly accurate resolver-to-digital converter (RDC) for electrical drive applications based on an integrated software approach, thus allowing a significant reduction of hardware components count with significant improvements in terms of reliability, reduction of fault rate, and susceptibility to electromagnetic interference (EMI). Particular attention has been addressed to cost which is 25% off over conventional RDC. Simulations and experimental tests confirm the high quality of the proposed system.

BIM and Low-Cost Survey Techniques for Building Heritage Conservation

2017

The aim of this contribution is to illustrate a methodology for the protection and management of the building heritage, adding to the historical documentary investigations, a careful phase of survey and a conscious geometric and informational modelling of the pre-existence. The focus of this work was the Tower of Vietri sul Mare: a significant example of the architectural defense strategies adopted in Salerno in the 16th century. In fact, through the creation of digital models, it would be facilitated the management of the volumetric evolution that this tower has undergone over time, ensuring a greater accessibility and an easier understanding of the transformations it has suffered.

Development of the control card for the digitizers of the second generation electronics of AGATA

2012

In this work, the features and development process of the novel control card for the digitizers of AGATA are presented. The board is part of the new hardware proposed for the electronic system of the experiment. In particular, the control card provides the sampling clock for the digitizers, contributes to the synchronization of the digital data and performs the slow control of its associated digitizer cards.
