A multi-objective approach to solid waste management

The issue addressed in this paper consists in the localization and dimensioning of transfer stations, which constitute a necessary intermediate level in the logistic chain of the solid waste stream, from municipalities to the incinerator. Contextually, the determination of the number and type of vehicles involved is carried out in an integrated optimization approach. The model considers both initial investment and operative costs related to transportation and transfer stations. Analysis of the depth of field of integral imaging displays based on wave optics.

In this paper, we analyze the depth of field (DOF) of integral imaging displays based on wave optics. With considering the diffraction effect, we analyze the intensity distribution of light with multiple micro-lenses and derive a DOF calculation formula for integral imaging display system. We study the variations of DOF values with different system parameters. Experimental results are provided to verify the accuracy of the theoretical analysis. The analyses and experimental results presented in this paper could be beneficial for better understanding and designing of integral imaging displays.

Anomaly Detection from Network Logs Using Diffusion Maps

The goal of this study is to detect anomalous queries from network logs using a dimensionality reduction framework. The fequencies of 2-grams in queries are extracted to a feature matrix. Dimensionality reduction is done by applying diffusion maps. The method is adaptive and thus does not need training before analysis. We tested the method with data that includes normal and intrusive traffic to a web server. This approach finds all intrusions in the dataset. peerReviewed

Cytotoxic glycosides from the roots of Weigela x “Bristol Ruby”

International audience; Seven oleanane-type glycosides were extracted and isolated by various chromatographic methods from the roots of Weigela x "Bristol Ruby" (1-7), six previously undescribed (1-6) and a known one (7). Their structures were assigned by spectroscopic analysis mainly 2D NMR and mass spectrometry (ESIMS). Selected triterpenoid glycosides (1-3, 6, 7) displayed a good cytotoxic activity against a mouse colon cancer cell line CT26.

The role of olfaction in the elaboration and use of the Chardonnay wine concept

The existence of a Chardonnay wine concept was explored in two experiments. In the first experiment, 28 Chardonnay wine experts assessed in terms of a score the degree of representativeness of 48 white wines according to their own Chardonnay wine concept. The samples were 29 wines made from Chardonnay grapes and 19 wines made from other grape varieties (Aligote, Melon de Bourgogne, Sylvaner, Sauvignon blanc, Chenin, Marsanne and Pinot blanc). Conceptual vs. perceptual wine spaces: Does expertise matter?

Abstract This study explores the differences in wine categorization between wine experts and novice wine consumers using 10 Melon de Bourgogne (MB) and 10 Chardonnay (CH) wines. Participants performed a free sorting task based on odor similarity followed by a CH and a MB typicality rating task and a liking rating. All tasks were performed orthonasally. We observed a clear agreement between experts concerning typicality scores. Moreover, despite a slight overlap we found a clear differentiation between CH and MB for experts’ typicality scores.
