The electromagnetic form factors in the time like domain can be accessed by the reaction p ¯ p → e + e − or its time inversed process. Despite a long standing experimental effort to determine these form factors, the precision in the knowledge of the ratio | G E | / | G M | ist still very poor in the time like domain. All world data suffer from limited statistics and therefore have used the hypothesis of | G E | = | G M | in order to extract a value for | G M | . Probing nonstandard neutrino-electron interactions with solar and reactor neutrinos

Most neutrino mass extensions of the standard electroweak model entail non-standard interactions which, in the low energy limit, can be parametrized in term of effective four-fermion operators $\nu_\alpha \nu_\beta \bar f f $. Typically of sub-weak strength, $\epsilon_{\alpha \beta} G_F$, these are characterized by dimensionless coupling parameters, $\epsilon_{\alpha \beta}$, which may be relatively sizeable in a wide class of schemes. Seismic response of braced frames with and without friction dampers

Abstract The dynamic response of friction damped bracing systems and ordinary cross-bracing systems inserted into surrounding frames without lateral stiffness is analysed in order to compare the typical behaviour of the two different bracing systems. Design and optimization of bonded patch repairs of laminated composite structures

International audience; The present study proposes a method for design optimization of external patched repairs. The tensile behavior of notched specimens with patched repair was studied using finite element analysis and compared with experimental results. It was found that high stress concentrations along the transverse edges of circular patches and/or at the longitudinal edges of the hole leads to early damage initiation in the parent plate. The damage initiation site and its propagation depend on the patch in-plane stiffness. The optimal patch design can be characterized by a strength ratio R*. Dimensionless analysis of RC rectangular sections under axial load and biaxial bending

This paper proposes a numerical procedure able to provide ultimate curvature and moment domains of rectangular RC sections subjected to combined axial load and biaxial bending. The formulation is carried out in dimensionless terms in order to give results that are valid for classes of sections characterized by the same values of the geometric and mechanical parameters governing the section response. The role of some of these parameters is investigated here. The results show possible correlations linking the actual values of moment and curvature to the values corresponding to two cases of uniaxial bending to be considered separately. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd.

Experimental Investigation of the Outflow Process over a Triangular Labyrinth-Weir

In this paper, the outflow process from a sharp-crested triangular labyrinth weir is studied. Applying dimensional analysis and the Π theorem, five dimensionless groups, describing the outflow process, are deduced. The measurements, carried out by using sharp-crested weirs placed in a flume, allowed to establish a dimensionless stage-discharge relation. According to this equation, the flow magnification is affected by either the length magnification ratio or head to one cycle width ratio. The proposed equation, which also satisfies two theoretical boundary conditions, was finally tested by using experimental measurements of different reservoir hydraulic models.

Are calanco landforms similar to river basins?

In the past badlands have been often considered as ideal field laboratories for studying landscape evolution because of their geometrical similarity to larger fluvial systems. For a given hydrological process, no scientific proof exists that badlands can be considered a model of river basin prototypes. In this paper the measurements carried out on 45 Sicilian calanchi, a type of badlands that appears as a small-scale hydrographic unit, are used to establish their morphological similarity with river systems whose data are available in the literature. Strongly interacting Fermi gases with density imbalance

We consider density-imbalanced Fermi gases of atoms in the strongly interacting, i.e. unitarity, regime. The Bogoliubov-deGennes equations for a trapped superfluid are solved. They take into account the finite size of the system, as well as give rise to both phase separation and FFLO type oscillations in the order parameter. We show how radio-frequency spectroscopy reflects the phase separation, and can provide direct evidence of the FFLO-type oscillations via observing the nodes of the order parameter.

On the influence of gravitational and centrifugal buoyancy on laminar flow and heat transfer in curved pipes and coils

Abstract The effects of gravitational and centrifugal buoyancy on laminar flow and heat transfer in curved and helical pipes were investigated by numerical simulation. Six dimensionless numbers characterizing the problem were identified, and an analysis was conducted on the possible combinations of signs of the gravitational and centrifugal buoyancy effects.
