Amidino substituted 2-aminophenols: biologically important building blocks for the amidino-functionalization of 2-substituted benzoxazoles
2021
Unlike the closely related and widely investigated amidino-substituted benzimidazoles and benzothiazoles with a range of demonstrated biological activities, the matching benzoxazole analogues still remain a largely understudied and not systematically evaluated class of compounds. To address this challenge, we utilized the Pinner reaction to convert isomeric cyano-substituted 2- aminophenols into their amidine derivatives, which were isolated as hydrochlorides and/or zwitterions, and whose structure was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The key step during the Pinner synthesis of the crucial carboximidate intermediates was characterized through mechanistic DFT calculations, with…
Density Functional Theory Study of the Trans-Trans-Cis (TTC)→Trans-Trans-Trans (TTT) Isomerization of a Photochromic Spiropyran Merocyanine
2008
Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations have been performed on the TTC→TTT isomerization reaction of the open forms of the 1',3'-dihydro-8-bromo-6-nitro- 1',3',3'-trimethylspiro[2H-1-benzopyran-2,2'-(2H)indole (8-Br-6-nitro-BIPS) system. The calculations were carried out in vacuo and in methylene chloride solution at different temperatures. Results are compared with the available experimental values of free energy difference and activation energy in solution.
Design and Synthesis of 4-Substituted Indolo[3,2-e][1,2,3]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine Derivatives with Antitumor Activity
2008
New derivatives of the indolo[3,2- e][1,2,3]triazolo[1,5- a]pyrimidine system, substituted in the 4 position, were designed as novel antitumor agents because of their theoretical capability to form stable complexes with DNA fragments. The calculated free energies of binding were found in the range -12.76 --> -39.68 Kcal/mol. The docking studies revealed a common binding mode with the chromophore intercalated between GC base pairs, whereas the side chain lies along the minor groove. Compounds, selected on the basis of the docking studies and suitably synthesized, showed antiproliferative activity against each type of tumor cell line investigated, generally in the low micromolar range. The mo…
Moniammatillisuus osana fysioterapian ydinosaamista
2017
TIIVISTELMÄ Paasu-Hynynen, S. 2017. Moniammatillisuus osana fysioterapian ydinosaamista. Jyväskylän yli-opisto, fysioterapian pro Gradu -tutkielma, 63 s., 6 liitettä. Johdanto: Moniammatillinen osaaminen on merkittävää nykypäivän ja erityisesti tulevaisuuden sosiaali- ja terveysalan toiminnassa. Aikaisemmissa tutkimuksissa on osoitettu moniammatillisien tiimien olevan asiakaskeskeisiä ja tehokkaita, erityisesti kun kyseessä on moniongelmainen asia-kas. Fysioterapeuttien ydinosaaminen ja asiantuntijuus korostuvat toimintakyvyn arvioinnissa ja toimintakykyyn kohdistuvassa kuntoutuksessa. Fysioterapeuttien työ pohjautuu tutkimusnäyt-töön, mutta moniammatillisuustaitojen tarkastelua suomalaiste…
Antibiotic susceptibility of cocultures in polymicrobial infections such as peri-implantitis or periodontitis: an in vitro model.
2011
Although polymicrobial infections, such as peri-implantitis or periodontitis, were postulated in the literature to be caused by synergistic effects of bacteria, these effects remain unclear looking at antibiotic susceptibility. The aim of this study is to compare the antibiotic susceptibilities of pure cultures and definite cocultures.Laboratory strains of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (Aa) (previously Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans), Capnocytophaga ochracea (Co), and Parvimonas micra (Pm) (previously Peptostreptococcus micros) were cultivated under anaerobic conditions, and their susceptibilities to 10 antibiotics (benzylpenicillin G, ampicillin, amoxicillin, ampicillin/sulba…
New insights into non-avian dinosaur reproduction and their evolutionary and ecological implications: linking fossil evidence to allometries of extan…
2013
It has been hypothesized that a high reproductive output contributes to the unique gigantism in large dinosaur taxa. In order to infer more information on dinosaur reproduction, we established allometries between body mass and different reproductive traits (egg mass, clutch mass, annual clutch mass) for extant phylogenetic brackets (birds, crocodiles and tortoises) of extinct non-avian dinosaurs. Allometries were applied to nine non-avian dinosaur taxa (theropods, hadrosaurs, and sauropodomorphs) for which fossil estimates on relevant traits are currently available. We found that the reproductive traits of most dinosaurs conformed to similar-sized or scaled-up extant reptiles or birds. The …
New potent antibacterials against Gram-positive multiresistant pathogens: effects of side chain modification and chirality in linezolid-like 1,2,4-ox…
2014
The effects of side chain modification and chirality in linezolid-like 1,2,4-oxadiazoles have been studied to design new potent antibacterials against Gram-positive multidrug-resistant pathogens. The adopted strategy involved a molecular modelling approach, the synthesis and biological evaluation of new designed compounds, enantiomers separation and absolute configuration assignment. Experimental determination of the antibacterial activity of the designed (S)-1-((3-(4-(3-methyl-1,2,4-oxadiazol-5- yl)phenyl)-oxazolidin-2-one-5-yl)methyl)-3-methylthiourea and (S)-1-((3-(3-fluoro-4-(3-methyl-1,2,4- oxadiazol-5-yl)phenyl)-oxazolidin-2-one-5-yl)methyl)-3-methylthiourea against multidrug resistan…
Effects of moderate vs. high iso-inertial loads on power, velocity, work and hamstring contractile function after flywheel resistance exercise.
2019
Flywheel iso-inertial training has been shown to positively affect muscular strength and sports performance (e.g. agility). However, implementing such eccentrically-biased training during a microcycle needs to be carefully planned due to its purported effects on the neuromuscular system that can last for hours/days post-exercise. This study aimed at using tensiomyography to verify the effects of different inertias during the hip extension exercise on the contractile function of biceps femoris and semitendinosus muscles of the dominant leg for up to 72 hours post-exercise. Thirty participants (24.4 ± 3.4 years) were divided into 0.075 or 0.1 kg·m2 inertia groups and a control group. Magnitud…

The Body of the Soul. Lucretian Echoes in the Renaissance Theories on the Psychic Substance and its Organic Repartition
2015
In the 16th and 17th centuries, when Aristotelianism still was the leading current of natural philosophy and atomistic theories began to arise, Lucretius’ De Rerum Natura stood out as an attractive and dangerous model. The present paper reassesses several relevant aspects of Lucretius’ materialistic psychology by focusing on the problem of the soul’s repartition through the limbs discussed in Book 3. A very successful Lucretian image serves as fil rouge throughout this survey: the description of a snake chopped up, with its pieces moving on the ground (Lucretius DRN 1969, 3.657–669). The paper’s first section sets the poet’s theory against the background of ancient psychology, pointing out …
