OP0048 Outcomes in Systemic Lupus Erythematous (SLE) Patients Treated with Belimumab in Clinical Practice Settings: Results from the Observe Study in…

2014

Background Large-scale clinical trials have demonstrated clinical efficacy of belimumab in SLE patients. Objectives This study examined the clinical outcomes associated with belimumab in clinical practice settings in Germany. Methods OBSErve (GSK 117214) is a multi-center retrospective medical chart review study. Twenty-one rheumatologists from Germany treating >10 SLE-patients annually and with at least >5 yrs of practice experience were selected for data reporting. Adult SLE patients meeting the ACR classification criteria who received belimumab (10mg/kg) as part of usual care were identified for chart abstraction. Index date was the date of belimumab initiation. The primary outcome measu…

Activation of mGlu3 Receptors Stimulates the Production of GDNF in Striatal Neurons

2009

Metabotropic glutamate (mGlu) receptors have been considered potential targets for the therapy of experimental parkinsonism. One hypothetical advantage associated with the use of mGlu receptor ligands is the lack of the adverse effects typically induced by ionotropic glutamate receptor antagonists, such as sedation, ataxia, and severe learning impairment. Low doses of the mGlu2/3 metabotropic glutamate receptor agonist, LY379268 (0.25-3 mg/kg, i.p.) increased glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) mRNA and protein levels in the mouse brain, as assessed by in situ hybridization, real-time PCR, immunoblotting, and immunohistochemistry. This increase was prominent in the striatum, …

A Retrospective Analysis about Frequency of Monitoring in Italian Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Patients after Discontinuation.

2020

Successful discontinuation of tyrosine kinase inhibitors has been achieved in patients with chronic-phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Careful molecular monitoring after discontinuation warrants safe and prompt resumption of therapy. We retrospectively evaluated how molecular monitoring has been conducted in Italy in a cohort of patients who discontinued tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatment per clinical practice. The outcome of these patients has recently been reported&mdash

Methotrexate-Loaded Polymethylmethacrylate Bone Cement for Local Bone Metastasis Therapy: Pilot Animal Study in the Rabbit Patellar Groove

2008

Local chemotherapy is an option in bone metastasis treatment. On the other hand, evaluation of side effects on bone is a difficult issue in drug development and biomaterials research. Most animal models to date are inappropriate or not feasible. Rabbits are an alternative to other bigger mammals and have an appropriate bone structure compared to rats and mice. The patellar groove model of the rabbit offers a standardized and sensitive model to evaluate bone-compromising drug effects. We tested the system with a reproducible polymethacrylate implant as carrier and loaded this system with methotrexate. Three methotrexate concentrations were used in the test samples (250 mg, 1 g and 4 g per 40…

Traumatic lumbar disc extrusion mimicking spinal epidural hematoma: Case report and literature review

2020

Background: Because the neurological presentation of spinal epidural hematomas (SEH) is often not specific, they may be misdiagnosed as acute lumbar disk herniations. Here, we present a case in which a traumatic disc extrusion mimicked an epidural hematoma and reviewed the appropriate literature. Case Description: A 27-year-old male sustained a high-energy fall. The lumbar MRI scan showed a L4-S1 ventral medium/high signal intensity mass on the T1- and high signal intensity lesion on T2-weighted images; the original diagnosis was spinal epidural hematoma. However, at surgery, consisting of a left L4 and L5 hemilaminectomy with L4-L5 and L5-S1 laminotomy, an extruded lumbar disc was encount…

Infliximab and ulcerative colitis

2006

Expert Opin Biol Ther. 2006 Apr;6(4):401-8. Infliximab and ulcerative colitis. Cottone M, Mocciaro F, Modesto I. Università di Palermo, Istituto di Medicina Generale e Pneumologia, Via Trabucco 180, Palermo, Italy. dickens@tin.it Tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha is an inflammatory cytokine that plays a main role in the inflammatory process underlying inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Despite the fact that the cytokine profiles associated with ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) are classically considered different (a Th2 pattern in UC and a Th1 pattern in CD), there are several evidences in vitro and in vivo that TNF-alpha has an important role in UC. For this reason, inflixi…

Psycho-Social Factors in Patients with Cardiovascular Disease Attending a Family-Centred Prevention and Rehabilitation Programme: EUROACTION Model in…

2021

Background: Coronary heart disease (CHD) persists as the leading cause of death worldwide. Cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation (CVPR) has an interdisciplinary focus, and includes not only in physiological components, but it also addresses psycho-social factors. Methods: The study analysed the Spanish psycho-social data collected during the EUROACTION study. In Spain, two hospitals were randomised in the Valencia community. Coronary patients were prospectively and consecutively identified in both hospitals. The intervention hospital carried out a 16-week CVPR programme, which aimed to assess illness perceptions and establish healthy behaviours in patients and their partners. Results…

Association of transcatheter direct mitral annuloplasty with acute anatomic, haemodynamic, and clinical outcomes in severe mitral valve regurgitation.

2020

Abstract Aims Several approaches for transcatheter mitral valve repair for functional mitral valve regurgitation are established. Interventional direct annuloplasty is a novel trans‐venous, trans‐septal approach. While feasibility was proven recently, knowledge on its influence on cardiac dimensions, pressures, biomarkers, and clinical outcomes is sparse. Methods and results Patients consecutively treated with direct annuloplasty‐only procedures between December 2015 and April 2018 were included in this monocentric analysis. Echocardiographic measurements, biomarker levels, clinical status [New York Heart Association (NYHA) class and 6 min walk test] were assessed at baseline, at discharge,…

Effects of mandibular advancement surgery on the temporomandibular joint and muscular and articular adaptive changes--a systematic review.

2016

The objective of this study was to assess the anatomical changes to the condyle and articular disc following mandibular advancement surgery, the adaptation of the masticatory muscles, and the improvement or worsening of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) in patients with pre-existing disorders and those who developed them following surgery. Four databases were searched systematically: PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Cochrane Library. Of the 544 articles initially selected, 219 were duplicates and a further 165 were excluded on the basis of their titles and abstracts. On reading the full text, 89 were excluded because they were of no interest and 43 because they did not meet the inclusion criteri…
