Partial discharges on IGBT modules: Are sinusoidal waveforms sufficient to evaluate behavior?

In recent years, the increasing use of AC-DC converters, especially in the field of renewable energy sources has led to the implementation of new modulation techniques, in particular the ones based on the pulse width modulation. The purpose of the present work is to verify the different behavior that is obtained when the components are subjected to the partial discharge test carried out with a sinusoidal waveform, and when they are subjected to PWM stress-type, similar to the actual signal generated by this type of electronic components. By considering equal rms value of the fundamental sine wave, the comparison has shown different partial discharges patterns.

A fuzzy logic supervisory control system for optimising nitrogen removal and aeration energy consumption has been developed. This control system allows optimising and controlling the dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration in the aerobic reactors, the blowers discharge pressure and the effluent ammonia and nitrate concentrations. DO is controlled by adjusting control valve opening and blower discharge pressure is controlled by modifying rotational speed of the blowers. Optimum nitrification/denitrification is achieved by modifying the DO set point in the last aerobic reactor and the internal recirculation. Features and application of coupled cold plasma and photocatalysis processes for decontamination of water

Dielectric barrier discharge plasma and photocatalysis have been proposed as tools for decontamination of process water, especially in food industry. The present investigation aims to redefine and identify the features of coupling the two technologies in terms of degradation efficiency of a model compound. Results show that, when the process is carried out in plasma activated water in the presence of irradiated TiO2, the efficiency of the integrated process is lower than the sum of the two processes acting separately. As such, this flow may contribute to the biogeochemical and other marine budgets of near-shore waters. These discharges typically display significant spatial and temporal variability making assessments difficult. Discharge hydrograph estimation during floods, in rivers with torrential regime, is often based on the use of rating curves extrapolated from very low stage-discharge measurements. In this paper, a new low-cost device is proposed for fault location in power distribution system. The device is part of a system that should include several units installed in couples at the two ends of medium voltage (MV) cable lines. Their low cost justifies a widespread installation of these devices, moreover other functionalities could be considered so as to enrich the potential of the system for MV cables monitoring and asset management. This paper reports the results of an investigation carried out to establish the stage-discharge relationship for a flow simultaneously discharging over and under a sluice or a broad-crested gate. The stage-discharge relationship is deduced by a theoretical analysis, based on the application of the Π-theorem of the dimensional analysis and the incomplete self-similarity theory, coupled with an experimental investigation carried out by using a laboratory flume.
