Influence on PD Parameters due to Voltage Conducted Disturbances
2004
In the standard specification of ac dielectric-characteristic measurements of insulating materials, test voltage is prescribed as "approximately sinusoidal" when the highest acceptable deviation of the HV waveform, from the correct sinusoidal shape, is limited to a /spl plusmn/5% tolerance range of the crest factor value. In the field of partial discharge (PD) measurements and their statistical data processing, on which forecasts of long term behavior of components and their reliability are currently carried out, the results of elaborations depend on the voltage wave shape. In this paper, the errors in PD measurements, evaluated at industrial frequencies, due to applied voltages distorted b…
Synthesis and nonlinear optical properties of novel N,N-dihydroxyethyl-based molecular organic glasses using triaryl substitutes as amorphous phase f…
2011
In given study a new structural design of molecular NLO materials is presented where amorphous phase formation is achieved by introduction of bulky trityl and triphenylsilyl substituents. Obtained materials formed stable organic glasses with good optical quality and glass transition temperatures notably exceeding ambient. NLO activity was successfully measured in samples that underwent corona discharge poling. The comparison of both enhancer groups revealed, that trityl group increases thermal sustainability of material, while triphenylsilyl group better promotes formation and stability of amorphous phase.
Wireless partial discharge tracking on cross-linked polyethylene MV and HV cables
2018
Medium voltage (MV)/high voltage (HV) cable lines are high-value assets and require substantial costs for their installation or replacement. For this reason, the capability to assess the condition of cable lengths and accessories on site is of great importance. Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation is extensively used for MV, HV, and extra-high voltage (EHV) class cables [1] thanks to its excellent voltage-endurance and thermomechanical properties. In particular, XLPE-insulated cables feature substantially lower losses, easier manufacturing and jointing procedures, better environmental compatibility, and higher operating temperature compared with impregnated paper cables, which lead t…
Individual arc-discharge synthesized multiwalled carbon nanotubes probed with multiple measurement techniques
2020
Arc-discharge synthesized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (AD-MWNT), or related MWNTs, exhibit a good quality compared to the more common type of MWNT synthesized by catalytic chemical vapor deposition methods. Yet experimental measurements on these are rather few and typically have not correlated data from different measurement techniques. Here, the authors report Raman spectroscopy, scanning probe microscopy, conductivity measurements, and force microscopy on single AD-MWNTs. The results demonstrate the high quality of AD-MWNTs and are compatible with the view of them as the best approximation of MWNTs as an assembly of defect-free concentric individual single-walled carbon nanotubes. The au…
Detection of Partial Discharges at Square Shaped Voltages
2018
Due to the wide use of electronic converters and the introduction of new powerful power electronics devices, the input waveforms most often used are becoming much different than the traditional power frequent sinusoidal one. In High Voltage (HV) apparatus particularly, this condition can increase the stress on the insulation systems that may lower the reliability of the whole power grid. This type of input voltage, often showing an increased voltage gradient, causes problems in the Partial Discharge (PD) measurement setup and acquisition systems, also due to the increased harmonic content. In this paper, the main aim is to discuss how to suitably approach the measurement technique of PDs at…
Explicit equations for uniform flow depth
2017
Conventional approach in uniform open channel flow is to express the resistance coefficient in the Manning, Darcy-Weisbach or Chezy form. However, for practical cross-sections, including rectangular and trapezoidal ones, the governing equation is implicit in the uniform water depth. For these sections the water depth, corresponding to known values of the flow discharge, slope channel and resistance coefficient, is presently obtained by trial and error procedure. In this paper exact analytical solutions of uniform flow depth for rectangular and trapezoidal section have been obtained in the form of fast converging power series.
Experimental study on triangular central baffle flume
2019
Abstract In this paper the results of the experiments performed to study the flow through a Triangular Central Baffle Flume (TCBF) are reported. The investigated flume consists of a triangular baffle of the apex angle of 75° with a given base width. The theoretical stage-discharge formula was deduced by applying the Buckingham's Theorem and incomplete self-similarity hypothesis and was calibrated using the laboratory measurements carried out in this investigation. The proposed stage-discharge formula is characterized by a mean absolute relative error of 7.4% and 72% of the data points are in an error range of ±5%. The results indicate that TCBF flume is characterized by a flow capacity high…
Morphometric and hydraulic geometry assessment of a gully in SW Spain
2016
Abstract Gully erosion represents one of the most significant types of land degradation in the Mediterranean areas, giving place to important on- and off-site effects. In this paper, a second-order gully located in SW Spain is analyzed. Along the gully, 28 cross-sections were established and measured with a Leica TCRM1102 laser total station, approximately every 6 months from 2001 to 2007. The sections were located at variable distance, placing them in areas where active erosion was evident. In total, 13 field measurements were carried out, and the geometric characteristics of 28 cross-sections were obtained. Morphometric analyses were carried out in both the main gully and a tributary reac…
Las crecidas en ramblas valencianas mediterráneas
2001
This paper takes into account the characterisation of ephemeral stream hydrology from Mediterranean environments. The heavy floods that these countries suffer are due to firstly, the physical watershed features (steep slopes, scarced vegetation cover and thin soils) and, secondly, to the intense and variable rainfall. Large quantities of precipitation fall in a matter of hours, or even minutes, over very steep catchments, causing catastrophic flash-floods, with very pointed hydrographs and short time lags. Using hydrological daily data from the Rambla de la Viuda basin and five-minute data from both Barranc de Carraixet and Rambla de Poyo basins, we have analysed the rainfall- runoff proces…
Nosocomial rotavirus gastroenteritis in Spain: a multicenter prospective study.
2009
BACKGROUND The objective of this study was to assess the incidence of nosocomial rotavirus gastroenteritis among children <2 years of age. METHODS We conducted a prospective active surveillance for acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in the pediatric wards of 3 representative hospitals in Valencia (Spain) from October 2006 to March 2007, among children between 1 and 23 months of age with acute diarrhea. Children were followed up for 3 days after discharge. We obtained clinical and demographic information from participants and tested their stool specimens for rotavirus. RESULTS A total of 1576 children were hospitalized at the 3 hospitals and 1300 (82.5%) were followed up as the study cohort. In 69 …
