The comprehensive Open-Dialogue approach in Western Lapland: I. The incidence of non-affective psychosis and prodromal states

2011

Mental health services in a health district in Finland with a population of 72,000 were developed into a comprehensive family- and network-centered entity by giving all the psychiatric personnel training in family therapy or psychodynamic individual therapy, and by arranging a system in which all psychiatric crises were treated in a family- and network-centered manner by multidisciplinary crisis teams, mostly in the patient’s home. The system is a modification of the Need-Adapted Approach called the Open-Dialogue Approach (ODA). The changes in the incidence of first-contact non-affective psychoses and prodromal states were studied in two cities of the District, considering the five-year per…

Crisis perception in financial media discourse:a concrete application using the Minskian/mainstream opposition

2014

Purpose– The purpose of this article is to highlight the need for renewed collaborative efforts between linguists and economists to develop a multidisciplinary approach to discourse studies to single out, in the case at hand, how financial media discourse might reflect either a prevailing mainstream or a Minskian conceptual apparatus in financial crisis related papers.Design/methodology/approach– The paper conducts exploratory research by focusing on semantic analysis, so as to indicate how the latter might possibly indicate a shift in the prevailing framework in contemporary financial media discourse. After a clear exposition of a theoretical dichotomy between the Minskian and mainstream a…

Therefore, their management requires a multidisciplinary approach. Materials and methods: In this study we retrospectively examine two emblematic cases among 183 that occurred in our hospital from January 2008 to December 2017. Results: There were 183 cases of FBs of the head and neck district submitted to extraction with a range of age of between 18 months old and 79 years old. Of 183 patients, 112 were children, 60 were adults. The incidence was prevalent among children, with 112 c…

Innovative Methodology to Improve the Quality of Electronic Engineering Formation Through Teaching Industrial Computer Engineering

2004

An innovative educational methodology adapted to the requirements of a new era with new societal and industrial challenges for electronic engineers is proposed in this paper. This active methodology, known as the Educational Innovation Project (EIP), is being studied in the Electronic Engineering (EE) degree of the Higher Technical School of Design Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Valencia, Spain. The main objective of the EIP methodology is to improve the process of teaching and learning in order to increase student success. To accomplish this objective, the EIP method addresses various issues. From an organizational viewpoint, different structural aspects of the EE d…

A heuristic fuzzy algorithm for assessing and managing tourism sustainability

2019

“Smartness” and “sustainability” are gaining growing attention from both practitioners and policy makers. “Smartness” and “sustainability” assessments are of crucial importance for directing, in a systemic perspective, the decision-making process toward sustainability and smart growth objectives. Sustainability assessment is a major challenge due to the multidisciplinary aspects involved that make the evaluation process complex and hinder the effectiveness of available monitoring tools. To achieve the assessment objective, we introduce an enhanced fuzzy logic-based framework for handling the inherent uncertainty and vagueness of the involved variables: we apply our approach to Italy, and we…

Network for blood pressure research in children and adolescents (COST Action CA 19115)

2021

High blood pressure is a clearly established modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular and renal disease. Although most of its adverse effects develop in adulthood, it has become clear that high BP is a lifelong problem that can manifest early in life. While few would dispute the importance of taking effective steps to identify and manage this condition in middle-aged and elderly individuals, relatively little attention has been paid to the problem of high BP in children and adolescents. Therefore, the development of actions focused on early childhood, childhood and adolescence and the investigation of the underlying causes of this epidemic are of utmost importance. There is a pressing need …

This edited volume presents four different perspectives on developments in current aging research relating to health and cognition in old age. Using health as overarching concept, the volume addresses different components of health such as physical functioning, cognitive health, mental well-being, self-regula…
