Horizontal Governance and Governance Discourses in Career Guidance and Counselling in Finland In the 2000s, horizontal governance has become a growing mode of public sector governance. In this study, we examined horizontal governance in the context of career guidance and counselling in Finland. Our empirical research data consisted of ten (10) thematic interviews with public sector officials and other experts working in the governance of guidance at the national level. Our research aim was to scrutinize how the three ideal-types in public sector governance – bureaucratic (Weberian), new public management, and new public governance – were manifested in the informants’ discourses. Our results…
Linguistic Aspects in Web Counselling
2013
The global net system has provided new and expanded means of communication incorporating all forms of discourse, including medical interaction. However, due to the tentative nature of medical discourse, online relations between professionals and their patients still encounter limitations. Standard procedures between the doctor and patient allowed the doctor to assume an authoritative role as his position provided personal remedy or advice to the patient at hand. Consequently, he was relied upon to solve the initial complaint, and this capacity rendered the patient as the dependent party. The responsibility of this exchange was to counsel, and the doctor was therefore required to use accessi…
"You, my friend, are a gaycist": gay representations and heteronormativity on the comedy series Happy Endings
2014
Fiktiivisten representaatioiden laatu on tärkeässä asemassa.

Design/methodology/approach – The authors’ longitudinal case study utilises critical discourse analysis and analyses media and policy discourses regarding the birth of Aalto University. Findings –The findings suggest that the legitimation of the new university…
Ciència i moral. En els orígens de la maternitat totalitzant
2012

A Practical Joke in Public Sphere – a Polish Case Study
2017
The aim of the paper is to show multiple layers of discourse and the consequences of a particular practical joke that has been played at a local public event and has become a theme for media coverage nationwide. Students in one of Polish high schools brought a goat as a present to their headmaster and handed it in during their commencement ceremony. Some event participants reported it to the Animal Welfare Society claiming that the goat was mistreated. It seemed that it was not eager to be led on a leash and it urinated, which was interpreted as a sign of discomfort and stress. The story became a headline first in the local and then in the national press and television, and was accompanied …
