Prediction of the curing time of Spanish hams using peptide profiles established by capillary zone electrophoresis

Abstract A capillary zone electrophoresis procedure for the prediction of curing time of Spanish hams using peptide profiles has been developed. Excellent resolution between the seven peptide peaks was achieved within 30 min analysis time with a BGE containing 60 mM MgSO 4 and 50 mM phosphate at pH 2.5. Using hams with curing times of 6, 8 and 12 months, both linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and multiple linear regression (MLR) models were constructed. Rapid classification of enzymes in cleaning products by hydrolysis, mass spectrometry and linear discriminant analysis

A method for the rapid classification of proteases, lipases, amylases and cellulases used as enhancers in cleaning products, based on precipitation with acetone, hydrolysis with HCl, dilution of the hydrolysates with ethanol, and direct infusion into the electrospray ion source of an ion-trap mass spectrometer, has been developed. Discriminative features of type I and type III secreted proteins from Gram-negative bacteria

AbstractThe amino acid composition of sequences and structural attributes (α-helices, β-sheets) of C-and N-terminal fragments (50 amino acids) were compared to annotated (SWISS-PROT/ TrEMBL) type I (20 sequences) and type III (22 sequences) secreted proteins of Gram-negative bacteria.The discriminant analysis together with the stepwise forward and backward selection of variables revealed the frequencies of the residues Arg, Glu, Gly, Ile, Met, Pro, Ser, Tyr, Val as a set of strong (1-P < 0.001) predictor variables to discriminate between the sequences of type I and type III secreted proteins with a cross-validated accuracy of 98.6–100 %. Introduction: The Binge Eating Scale (BES) is a widely used self-report questionnaire to identify compulsive eaters. However, research on the dimensions and psychometric properties of the BES is limited. Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the properties of the Spanish version of the BES. Factorial Structure and Psychometric Properties of the Sensation Seeking Scale – Form V (SSS-V) in a Sample of Italian Adolescents

The present study was designed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Sensation Seeking Scale – Form V (SSS-V) for the Italian-speaking population. The instrument was administered to 1,530 high school and college students. A second group of 268 high school students completed the SSS-V and the Impulsiveness Questionnaire (IVE). Exploratory factor analysis highlighted a 2-factor structure, Thrill and Adventure Seeking (TAS) and Disinhibition (Dis). Confirmatory factor analysis revealed an adequate model fit. Authentication of extra virgin olive oils by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy

Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), followed by multivariate treatment of the spectral data, was used to classify vegetable oils according to their botanical origin, and also to establish the composition of binary mixtures of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) with other low cost edible oils. Oil samples corresponding to five different botanical origins (EVOO, sunflower, corn, soybean and hazelnut) were used. The wavelength scale of the FTIR spectra of the oils was divided in 26 regions.
