Emotional politics on Facebook. An exploratory study of Podemos’ discourse during the European election campaign 2014

The results of the European elections 2014 in Spain were characterized by the outstanding rise of a new party, Podemos, which obtained five seats in the European Parliament, despite being founded few months before the elections. The present study analyzes both the content and the presence of emotions in Podemos’ discourse on Facebook during the European electoral campaign. In particular, the affective content of both the party’s discourse and the comments of its followers will be analyzed through a pragmatic linguistic approach applied to a corpus of 163 posts and 215 followers’ comments. In certain contexts, and historical moments, the press has become an instrument of a dominant group that turns media discourse into a weapon, in order to carry out ideological manipulation of the recipient (Charaudeau 2003: 42 ). This is the case in the magazines that are the subject of this work: Legiones y Falanges (1940-1943) and Y, Revista para la mujer nacionalsindicalista (1938-1945), two exemplary publications in which the power elites propose to extol the ideological basis of the young Francoist dictatorship and to build the identity of the woman that the regime needs. This article intends to put light on some of the rationalization mechanisms of the boring and of the scholar disobedience presents at the modern psicopedagogical rationality. We carry on with this task spacing us out from a double position: the one that pathologies what challenge someone or defer from the established identities, and the one that turns violence into a simple phenomena of technical management and of production of expert wisdom. En este trabajo analizamos dos aspectos de las cuentas de los partidos políti - cos en Twitter durante la campaña del 26J: la estructura semiótica de los tuits y su función comunicativa.
