Dispersion relation formalism for the two-photon exchange correction to elastic muon-proton scattering: elastic intermediate state

2018

We evaluate the two-photon exchange correction to the unpolarized cross section in the elastic muon-proton scattering within dispersion relations. One of the six independent invariant amplitudes requires a subtraction. We fix the subtraction function to the model estimate of the full two-photon exchange at one of three MUSE beam energies and make a prediction for the two other energies. Additionally, we present single and double polarization observables accounting for the lepton mass.

Two-photon exchange corrections to elastic e− -proton scattering: Full dispersive treatment of πN states at low momentum transfers

2017

We evaluate the pion-nucleon intermediate-state contribution to the two-photon exchange (TPE) correction in the elastic electron-nucleon scattering within a dispersive framework. We calculate the contribution from all $\ensuremath{\pi}N$ partial waves using the MAID parametrization. We provide the corresponding TPE correction to the unpolarized $ep$ scattering cross section in the region of low momentum transfer ${Q}^{2}\ensuremath{\lesssim}0.064\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{GeV}}^{2}$, where no analytical continuation into the unphysical region of the TPE scattering amplitudes is required. We compare our result in the forward angular region with an alternative TPE calculation, in terms of struc…

Control of Space-Time Trajectories of Noise-Driven Optical Extreme Events in Metamaterial Waveguides

2019

Metamaterials offer the potential to precisely manipulate electromagnetic wave propagation in ways that cannot be achieved with materials found in nature. The formation and propagation of optical spatial solitons in metamaterials has been already investigated [1]. Here we report the theoretical and numerical investigations on temporal-spectral dynamics of nonlinear extreme events arising from the initial noise-perturbed plane wave in metamaterial waveguides. A typical waveguide structure used here is a planar structure with a metamaterial core and a part of the structure, in the form of the substrate, is replaced with a magnetooptic material. We assume that the core material is isotropic an…

Theoretical studies of the propagation of sound in narrow channels filled with helium II. I. The dispersion relations of fourth sound and of the fift…

1971

The wave propagation in helium II bounded by two plane-parallel plates forming a narrow channel is considered. The theory is based on the complete linearized set of the Khalatnikov equations. These equations are exactly averaged over the width of the channel taking into account the boundary conditions and symmetry relations. It is shown that in narrow channels three solutions of these equations exist; (a) fourth sound, (b) the so-called fifth-wave mode, and (c) another wave mode, which is very strongly damped. The dispersion relations of these wave modes are calculated with regard to all kinetic coefficients and to the coefficient of thermal expansion. The phase velocities and absorption co…

A dispersion relation for the pion-mass dependence of hadron properties

2010

We present a dispersion relation in the pion-mass squared, which static quantities (nucleon mass, magnetic moment, etc.) obey under the assumption of analyticity in the entire complex $m_\pi^2$ plane modulo a cut at negative $m_\pi^2$ associated with pion production. The relation is verified here in a number of examples of nucleon and $\Delta$-isobar properties computed in chiral perturbation theory up to order $p^3$. We outline a method to obtain relations for other mass-dependencies, and illustrate it on a two-loop example.

Optical phonon modes of wurtzite InP

2013

Optical vibration modes of InP nanowires in the wurtzite phase were investigated by Raman scattering spectroscopy. The wires were grown along the [0001] axis by the vapor-liquid-solid method. The A1(TO), E2h, and E1(TO) phonon modes of the wurtzite symmetry were identified by using light linearly polarized along different directions in backscattering configuration. Additionally, forbidden longitudinal optical modes have also been observed. Furthermore, by applying an extended 11-parameter rigid-ion model, the complete dispersion relations of InP in the wurtzite phase have been calculated, showing a good agreement with the Raman experimental data.

The band structure of double excited states for a linear chain

2000

Abstract The energy band structure in the case of double excited states of finite spin systems (s= 1 2 ) has been investigated. A geometrical construction based on the Bethe Ansatz method for determining eigenstates has been proposed. The formula for energy spectrum in the center and at the border of Brillouin zone has been obtained. Classification of energy bands has been elaborated on and approximated dispersion law for bounded states given. Some problems with application of the Bethe Ansatz in the case of finite system has been pointed out.

Understanding and controlling N-dimensional quantum walks via dispersion relations: application to the two-dimensional and three-dimensional Grover w…

2013

The discrete quantum walk in N dimensions is analyzed from the perspective of its dispersion relations. This allows understanding known properties, as well as designing new ones when spatially extended initial conditions are considered. This is done by deriving wave equations in the continuum, which are generically of the Schrodinger type, and allows devising interesting behavior, such as ballistic propagation without deformation, or the generation of almost flat probability distributions, which is corroborated numerically. There are however special points where the energy surfaces display intersections and, near them, the dynamics is entirely different. Applications to the two- and three-d…

Dispersion relations applied to double-folding potentials from chiral effective field theory

2020

We present a determination of optical potentials using the double-folding method based on chiral effective field theory nucleon-nucleon interactions at next-to-next-to-leading order combined with dispersion relations to constrain the imaginary part. This approach is benchmarked on O16-O16 collisions, and extended to the C12-C12 and C12-O16 cases. Predictions derived from these potentials are compared to data for elastic scattering at energies up to 1000 MeV, as well as for fusion at low energy. Without adjusting parameters, excellent agreement with experiment is found. In addition, we study the sensitivity of the corresponding cross sections to the nucleon-nucleon interactions and nuclear d…

Synchrotron Radiation from the Crab Nebula Discriminates between Models of Space-Time Foam

2003

It has been argued by Jacobson, Liberati and Mattingly that synchrotron radiation from the Crab Nebula imposes a stringent constraint on any modification of the dispersion relations of the electron that might be induced by quantum gravity. We supplement their analysis by deriving the spectrum of synchrotron radiation from the coupling of an electrically-charged particle to an external magnetic fields in the presence of quantum-gravity effects of the general form $(E/M_{QG})^\alpha$. We find that the synchrotron constraint from the Crab Nebula practically excludes $\alpha \lsim 1.74$ for $M_{QG} \sim m_P = 1.2 \times 10^{19}$ GeV. On the other hand, this analysis does not constrain any modif…
