Dielectric investigation of lead‐free perovskite strontium titanate with 25% bismuth ceramics

In this work lead-free 0.75SrTiO3-0.25BiTiO3 ceramics have been investigated in broad frequency range. Obtained results showed pronounced dispersion below room temperature typical for the dipolar glasses. The calculated relaxation time distribution function broadens toward longest relaxation times part on cooling. The obtained most probable relaxation time diverges according to the Vogel-Fulcher relationship with the following parameters: dipole activation energy EA=2123 K, glassy state temperature T0=52.7 K, shortest relaxation time, referring to dipole relaxations at very high temperatures, τ0=2.1·10–14 s. Lattice dynamics of the fluoride scheelite CaZnF4

The lattice dynamics of the fluoride scheelite CaZnF4 have been investigated by means of infrared reflectivity and Raman scattering. The measured phonon modes have been assigned to the various irreducible representations of the point group of the crystal. The phonon dispersion curves, density of states and sound velocities have been calculated within a rigid-ion model based on experimental zone-centre phonons.

Vibrational properties of ZnTe at high pressures

Raman spectra of ZnTe were measured under hydrostatic pressures up to 15 GPa at T = 300 K. Results for the frequencies of first- and second-order Raman features of the zincblende phase (0-9.5 GPa) are used to set up a rigid-ion model of the phonon dispersion relations under pressure. Calculated phonon densities of states, mode Gruneisen parameters and the thermal expansion coefficient as a function of pressure are discussed. The effect of pressure on the widths and intensities of Raman spectral features is considered. Raman spectra of high-pressure phases of ZnTe are reported. Electrically conductive hydrogel composites made of polyaniline nanoparticles and poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone)

Abstract A novel electrically conductive composite material, consisting of polyaniline (PANI) nanoparticles dispersed in a polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) hydrogel, was prepared ‘in situ’ by water dispersion polymerisation (DP) of aniline using PVP as steric stabiliser, followed by γ-irradiation induced crosslinking of the PVP component. Conversion yield of aniline into PANI particles was determined via HPLC and gas chromatography, while structural confirmation of the synthesised polymer was sought by FTIR. Thermoreversible gelation of kappa-carrageenan: relation between conformational transition and aggregation.

Abstract We have studied, by optical rotation dispersion, light scattering and rheology, the κ-Carrageenan system to elucidate the processes involved in gel formation (on decreasing the temperature) and gel melting (on increasing the temperature). Our results show that, on decreasing the temperature, a conformational transition from coils to double helices first occurs, followed by aggregation of the double helices into domains and gel formation at appropriate polymer concentration. Experimental generation of optical flaticon pulses

International audience; We experimentally investigate the nonlinear reshaping of a continuous wave which leads to chirp-free and flat-top intense pulses or flaticons exhibiting strong temporal oscillations at their edges and a stable self-similar expansion upon propagation of their central region. This study was performed in the normal dispersion regime of a non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber and involved a sinusoidal phase modulation of the continuous wave. Our fiber optics experiment is analogous to considering the collision between oppositely directed currents near the beach, and it may open the way to new investigations in the field of hydrodynamics.

Observed and Simulated Variability of Droplet Spectral Dispersion in Convective Clouds Over the Amazon

In this study, the variability of the spectral dispersion of droplet size distributions (DSDs) in convective clouds is investigated. Analyses are based on aircraft measurements of growing cumuli near the Amazon basin, and on numerical simulations of an idealized ice‐free cumulus. In cleaner clouds, the relative dispersion ϵ, defined as the ratio of the standard deviation to the mean value of the droplet diameter, is negatively correlated with the ratio of the cloud water content (qc) to the adiabatic liquid water content (qa), while no strong correlation between ϵ and qc/qa is seen in polluted clouds. Convection and thermodiffusion of colloidal gold tracers by laser light scattering

In a dynamic light scattering experiment, we have investigated the time intensity correlation function and the profile of the transmitted laser beam for organic dispersions of light absorbing colloidal particles containing tiny gold clusters. The correlation functions have been found to show a superposition of an exponential decay, corresponding to Brownian motion of the tracers, and well-defined oscillations. These oscillations are caused by convection due to local heating of the sample by the incident laser beam, which has been confirmed independently via measurements of the local temperature within the sample. Onset of convection in a vertical porous cylinder with a permeable and conducting side boundary

Abstract The onset of natural convection in a vertical porous cylinder saturated by a fluid is studied. The lateral confinement of the porous cylinder is due to an external porous medium having a permeability much smaller than that of the cylinder. Thus, the vertical side boundary of the cylinder is permeable and constrained by given pressure and temperature distributions. The lower and upper plane boundaries of the cylinder are impermeable walls. The lower wall is subject to a uniform heat flux, while the upper wall has a uniform temperature.
