Brain tissue is a really complex system composed of different cell types that change in shape and size. A single neuron itself has a cell body, dendrites and an axon. About 80% of cerebral tissue consists of water molecules that are confined (intra and extra cellular) in its disordered biologic networks. Using neutron scattering on IN13 we are able to explore hydrogens (H) dynamics in time scale at about 40 ps and in size scale at about 1 Å. Such characteristic make it suitable to investigate brain tissue heterogeneity exploiting hydrogens as a probe since major constituent of macromolecules and water. Decyzją konferencji jałtańskiej w 1945 r. wytyczono nowe granice państwa polskiego po II wojnie światowej oraz ustalono konieczność wysiedlenia Niemców z ziem przekazanych Polsce. Doprowadziło to do masowych przesiedleń ludności z dawnych terenów wschodnich II Rzeczypospolitej na tzw. odzyskane ziemie zachodnie, dla której proces „wrastania” w nową przestrzeń był wyjątkowo traumatyczny. Autorka śledzi ten skomplikowany i długotrwały proces na przykładzie Opolszczyzny, gdzie funkcjonowały obok siebie dwie wspólnoty: przesiedleńców i autochtonów, w równym stopniu przeżywające szok związany z niełatwą adaptacją do nowej rzeczywistości politycznej. In the realm of wartime history, a little real analysis has been done on the implications of total war in Sicily. Indeed, World War II transformed the relationship between fascist regime and society. Moreover, there are few studies on reorganization of the connections between local institutions and fascist government. Civilians have been most involved in this process. In this article, I will mainly adopt the perspective of civilians to reconstruct how war led to these transformations. Supercooled Water Confined in a Silica Xerogel: Temperature and Pressure Dependence of Boson Peak and of Mean Square Displacements

A silica xerogel can be obtained from an alcoxide precursor (TMOS, tetramethylortosilcate) via the sol-gel method: TMOS hydrolysis and subsequent polycondensation yields a solid, disordered, porous SiO2 matrix (average pore dimensions ~20Å). Inside the pores water is trapped and the hydration level h=gr[H2O]/gr[SiO2] can be easily controlled. The presence and temperature dependence of the boson peak (BP) in xerogel confined supercooled water was studied with inelastic neutron scattering (spectrometer IN6 at ILL, Grenoble) in xerogel samples having h=0.4 and h=0.2. Job Displacement, Inter-Regional Mobility and Long-Term Earnings

We examine the effect of job displacement on regional mobility using linked employer-employee panel data for the 1995-2014 period. We also study whether displaced movers obtain earnings and employment gains compared to displaced stayers. The results show that job displacement increases the migration probability by ~70%. However, social capital in a region and housing characteristics decrease the propensity to move, indicating that people do not make the migration decisions solely based on short-term economic incentives. Migration has an immediate negative relationship with earnings, but the link diminishes as time passes and eventually turns positive for men. The link between migration and …
