Classification trees for multivariate ordinal response: an application to Student Evaluation Teaching

2016

Data from multiple items on an ordinal scale are commonly collected when qualitative variables, such as feelings, attitudes and many other behavioral and health-related variables are observed. In this paper we introduce a method to derive a distance-based tree for multivariate ordinal response that allows, when subject-specific characteristics are available, to derive common profiles for respondents giving the same/similar multivariate ratings. Special attention will be paid to the performance comparison in terms of AUC, for three different distances used as splitting criteria. Simulated data an a dataset from a Student Evaluation of Teaching survey will be used as illustrative examples. Th…

The kinematics of water masers in the stellar molecular outflow source, IRAS 19134+2131

2004

Using the Very Large Array (VLA) and the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), we have observed water maser emission in the proto-planetary nebula candidate IRAS 19134+2131, in which the water maser spectrum has two groups of emission features separated in radial velocity by ∼100 km s^−1. The blue-shifted and red-shifted clusters of maser features are clearly separated spatially by ∼150 mas, indicative of a fast collimated flow. However, not all of the maser features are aligned along the axis of the flow, as is seen in the similar high-velocity water maser source, W43A. Comparing the VLA and VLBA maps of the water maser source, we find 4 maser features that were active for 2 years. Using only V…

Impact of the use of sterically congested Ir(III) complexes on the performance of light-emitting electrochemical cells

2018

International audience; The synthesis, structural and optoelectronic characterization of a family of sterically congested cyclometalated cationic Ir(iii) complexes of the form [Ir(C^N)2(dtBubpy)]PF6 (with dtBubpy = 4,4′-di-tert-butyl-2,2′-bipyridine and C^N = a cyclometalating ligand decorated at the 4-position of the pyridine ring and/or the 3-position of the phenyl ring with a range of sterically bulky substituents) are reported. This family of complexes is compared to the unsubstituted analogue complex R1 bearing 2-phenylpyridinato as cyclometalating ligand. The impact of sterically bulky substituents on the C^N ligands on both the solid state photophysics and light-emitting electrochemi…

The REFLEX galaxy cluster survey VIII. Spectroscopic observations and optical atlas

2009

We present the final data from the spectroscopic survey of the ROSAT-ESO Flux-Limited X-ray (REFLEX) catalog of galaxy clusters. The REFLEX survey covers 4.24 steradians (34% of the entire sky) below a declination of 2.5 deg and at high Galactic latitude (|b| > 20 deg). The REFLEX catalog includes 447 entries with a median redshift of 0.08 and is better than 90% complete to a limiting flux fx = 3x10^{-12} erg s^{-1} cm^{-2} (0.1 to 2.4 keV), representing the largest statistically homogeneous sample of clusters drawn from the ROSAT All-Sky Survey (RASS) to date. Here we describe the details of the spectroscopic observations carried out at the ESO 1.5 m, 2.2 m, and 3.6 m telescopes, as wel…

Structure of longitudinal chromomagnetic fields in high energy collisions

2014

We compute expectation values of spatial Wilson loops in the forward light cone of high-energy collisions. We consider ensembles of gauge field configurations generated from a classical Gaussian effective action as well as solutions of high-energy renormalization group evolution with fixed and running coupling. The initial fields correspond to a color field condensate exhibiting domain-like structure over distance scales of order the saturation scale. At later times universal scaling emerges at large distances for all ensembles, with a nontrivial critical exponent. Finally, we compare the results for the Wilson loop to the two-point correlator of magnetic fields.

Homo- and heterometallic metal atomic strings

2016
