Exploiting Deductive Processes for Automated Network Management

2005

This paper focuses on improving network management by the adoption of artificial intelligence techniques. We propose a distributed multiagent architecture for network management, which exploits the dynamic reasoning capabilities of the situation calculus in order to emulate the reactive behavior of a human expert to fault situations. The information related to network events is generated by programmable sensors deployed on the network devices and is collected by a logical entity for network managing where it is merged with general domain knowledge, with a view to identifying the root causes of faults and to decide on reparative actions. The logical inference system has been devised to carry…

Towards integrated operations for ships

2013

Maritime customers will benefit greatly from integrated operations between ship and shore. It requires integrating diverse information services within a variety of communication environments, which is a complex task. The common approach to dealing with complex tasks is to use a divide-and-conquer policy and solve problems independently. Since there are mainly two challenges involved - interoperability among heterogeneous applications and connectivity through difficult maritime networks, to handle them separately has become useful. While interoperability and connectivity solutions work well individually, if we put them together in the maritime context, problems arise. We b services based int…

A new proposed cloud computing based architecture for space ground data systems

2018

International audience; Many companies decided to move towards the cloud computing technology in order to manage, monitor and explore huge space data amount in the space ground data systems. The corresponding transition adaptation needs a study to classify each space related service in the appropriate cloud computing service model layer; SaaS, PaaS and IaaS. In this paper, we specify a representation of proposed cloud computing based ground data system architecture for earth observation missions. The proposed architecture takes into consideration the collaboration aspect between multiple space agencies. We evaluate the time, storage and processing performance when using the cloud computing …

Emergence of hierarchical networks and polysynchronous behaviour in simple adaptive systems

2011

We describe the dynamics of a simple adaptive network. The network architecture evolves to a number of disconnected components on which the dynamics is characterized by the possibility of differently synchronized nodes within the same network (polysynchronous states). These systems may have implications for the evolutionary emergence of polysynchrony and hierarchical networks in physical or biological systems modeled by adaptive networks.

A Logical Framework for Augmented Simulations of Wireless Sensor Networks

2006

This paper describes a framework for practical and efficient monitoring of a wireless sensor network. The architecture proposed exploits the dynamic reasoning capabilities of the situation calculus in order to assess the sensor network behavior before actually deploying all the nodes. Designing a wireless sensor network for a specific application typically involves a preliminary phase of simulations that rely on specialized software, whose behavior does not necessarily reproduce what will be experienced by an actual network. On the other hand, delaying the test phase until deployment may not be advisable due to unreasonable costs. This paper suggests the adoption of a hybrid approach that i…

Distributed intelligent management,of active networks

2003

This paper focuses on improving computer network management by the adoption of artificial intelligence techniques. A logical inference system has being devised to enable automated isolation, diagnosis, and even repair of network problems, thus enhancing the reliability, performance, and security of networks. We propose a distributed multi-agent architecture for network management, where a logical reasoner acts as an external managing entity capable of directing, coordinating, and stimulating actions in an active management architecture. The active networks technology represents the lower level layer which makes possible the deployment of code which implement teleo-reactive agents, distribut…

FUZZY TCP: A PRELIMINARY STUDY

2002

Implementing efficient TCP for the Internet necessarily has to cope with the problem that the source does not know in advance which window allocation policy should be the best to use for a given network condition. In this paper, an on-line adaptive fuzzy system is used at the source in an objective to find the best possible weighted combination among the available policies.

Efficient Queuing Schemes for HoL-Blocking Reduction in Dragonfly Topologies with Minimal-Path Routing

2015

HPC systems are growing in number of connected endnodes, making the network a main issue in their design. In order to interconnect large systems, dragonfly topologies have become very popular in the latest years as they achieve high scalability by exploiting high-radix switches. However, dragonfly high performance may drop severely due to the Head-of-Line (HoL) blocking effect derived from congestion situations. Many techniques have been proposed for dealing with this harmful effect, the most effective ones being those especially designed for a specific topology and a specific routing algorithm. In this paper we present a queuing scheme called Hierarchical Two-Levels Queuing, designed speci…

Transport Protocols for Remote Programming of Network Robots within the context of Telelaboratories for Education: A Comparative Analysis

2007

Within the context of tele-laboratories for education the use of the Internet as communication media permits any researcher/student to perform remote experiments in a simple and reliable manner. Moreover, this situation introduces many interesting issues like network protocols for Internet robots, the effects of variable bandwidth and time-delays on telerobotics, etc. In this paper we present a comparative analysis of using several Internet transport protocols when performing a remote experiment within the UJI Industrial Telelaboratory. TCP, UDP, Trinomial and TEAR protocols are analyzed using the NS2 simulator. Conclusions show a set of characteristics the authors of this paper consider ve…

Efficient Steering Mechanism for Mobile Network-Enabled UAVs

2022

HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS) is becoming the de-facto video delivery technology over best-effort networks nowadays, thanks to the myriad advantages it brings. However, many studies have shown that HAS suffers from many Quality of Experience (QoE)-related issues in the presence of competing players. This is mainly caused by the selfishness of the players resulting from the decentralized intelligence given to the player. Another limitation is the bottleneck link that could happen at any time during the streaming session and anywhere in the network. These issues may result in wobbling bandwidth perception by the players and could lead to missing the deadline for chunk downloads, which result …
