2008

A fundamental trait of the Islamic tradition is represented from the exegesis of divine names. Names that describe God under his manifold ones aspects and which are therefore attributives: the Clement, the Merciful, the Creator, the Righteous. The Islamic texts on this subject are innumerable and present themselves to the scholar both in the form of entire treatises and as chapters dedicated to them within larger works. In the following study we will draw on one of the basic texts of the question on names divine elaborated by one of the most important medieval masters of tasawwuf. The text dealing with divine names (entitled Book of exclusive aspiration on the knowledge of the isolated name)…

Un'altra salvezza

2010

Closure to “Laboratory and Field Calibration of the Diviner 2000 Probe in Two Types of Soil” by J. Haberland, R. Gálvez, C. Kremer, and C. Carter

2015

The authors deal with the quite interesting and actual problem of Diviner 2000 capacitance probe calibration and present some field and laboratory data obtained on two different layers (0–0.26 and 0.26–0.50 cm) of the same soil profile, characterized by different textural class. The importance of site-specific calibration of sensors used to monitor soil or plant water status assumes a particular relevance in semiarid environments where the application of precision irrigation represents an appropriate management strategy aimed to achieve high values of water use efficiency (Cammalleri et al. 2013). Moreover, in clay soils, physical properties are strongly influenced by soil water content (Pr…

From Zeno to Chrysippus

2015

This chapter is about the origin and development of early Stoic epistemology. I discuss how Zeno of Citium, the founder of the Stoa, was influenced by his predecessors and interpreted by his successors. I argue that Stoicism rely on two basic assumptions for which Socrates is the main predecessor, namely that human beings are at home in the world and that it is only by using our rational abilities to detect salient truths and organize them into skills that we can successfully orient ourselves in this world. This Socratic-Stoic position relies on a naturalistic theory of concept acquisition, for which Aristotle is the main predecessor, or so I argue. I then look at how Zeno’s original episte…

Kerguelen, un archipel sous haute surveillance

2016

In this book, published d…

A note on beliefs formation in signalling games

1994

Abstract We present a new criterion, called incentive dominance, for belief formation in signalling games, which subsumes refinements criteria such as equilibrium dominance and divinity. It captures the principle of forward induction through explicitly modelling the player's thought process when forming preliminary beliefs.
