The significance of premature luteinization in an oocyte-donation programme
2006
BACKGROUND: Several evidences indicate that premature luteinization (PL) may affect IVF outcome. The primary end-point of the present study was to verify the effect of PL on the pregnancy rate (PR) of our oocytedonation programme. METHODS: PL was defined as serum progesterone ³1.2 ng/ml on the day of HCG. We analysed retrospectively 240 oocyte-donation cycles in which 120 women donated twice, with PL in the first donation cycle and no PL in the following one, acting as its own control. Recipients (n = 240) were divided in two groups according to the presence of PL (n = 120) or not (n = 120). Both groups were compared regarding donor cycle parameters and recipient cycle outcome. RESULTS: The…
Pure donation or hybrid donation crowdfunding
2019
PurposeDespite the growing research exploring the possibility and feasibility of financing socially oriented projects through crowdfunding, relatively little research examines which crowdfunding model is better to serve such purpose. The purpose of this paper is to offer novel insights to mitigate this research gap.Design/methodology/approachA unique data set collected from the largest Chinese crowdfunding platform is used to test the hypotheses. To solve the perceived self-selection problem, the propensity score matching method is adopted in this paper. Based on this approach, the results of similar prosocial campaigns in two different models (pure donation and hybrid donation) are compare…
Crowdfunding success: a systematic literature review 2010–2017
2020
PurposeThe paper takes stock of accumulated knowledge on factors impacting the success of online crowdfunding (CF) campaigns while suggesting opportunities for future research development.Design/methodology/approachA Systematic Literature Review of 88 academic papers published between 2010 and 2017. Papers were collected from four academic databases and published in 65 different journals. The review addresses issues related to theory, methods, context, findings and gaps. Overall, the paper presents an analysis of 1,718 associations between 111 aggregated independent variables (from 927 variables) with six main aggregated success indicators.FindingsMost research involves quantitative analyse…

Induced Modification of Flexural Toughness of Natural Hydraulic Lime Based Mortars by Addition of Giant Reed Fibers
2020
Abstract Nowadays, there is a growing need to reduce the environmental impact generated by the use of inorganic materials for building applications. The aim of this work is to investigate the bio-lime based mortar flexural toughness improvement due to the addition of common reed fibers (Arundo donax L.) in order to evaluate their possible application as ductile eco-compatible prefabricated bricks or laying and joint mortars for masonry. Different sets of specimens were tested by varying the fiber weight content and the fiber length. Moreover, chemical treatments with Linseed Oil and Polyethylene glycol (PEG) were performed to improve the physical and mechanical properties of the fibers as w…
Thalassiosira pseudonana diatom as biotemplate to produce a macroporous ordered carbon-rich material
2008
Abstract Ordered macroporous–mesoporous carbonaceous materials were produced as a direct replica of the Thalassiosira pseudonana diatom by infiltration of the skeleton with furfuryl alcohol. The final carbon-rich material preserves the macropores of the diatom acting as bio-template and new hierarchical macro–mesopores appears as the silica is eliminated through chemical etching. The final solid can be described as an organized array of carbon macrotubes. In order to understand the progressive silica etching and the subsequent effect on the final carbon material, different etching reagents have been used. Moreover, the similar pore topology of T. pseudonana and the well known MCM-41 mesopor…
Autohydrolysis pretreatment of Arundo donax: a comparison between microwave-assisted batch and fast heating rate flow-through reaction systems
2015
Background: Autohydrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass in liquid hot water has been widely studied owing to its high efficiency and relatively low cost. In the perspective of industrial applications, continuous or semi-continuous processes are more interesting than batch systems. Moreover, microwave heating of pretreatment systems has been proposed to intensify the kinetics of the process. In this study, the autohydrolysis of Arundo donax was performed in pure liquid hot water using a microwave-heated batch reactor and a semi-continuous flow-through reaction system with fast heating rate at the same operating conditions with the aim of performing a systematic comparison between the two diffe…
