The pathogen safety of blood/plasma-derived products has historically been a subject of significant concern to the medical community, Measures such as donor selection and blood screening have contributed to increase the safety of these products, but pathogen transmission does still occur. Reasons for this include lack of sensitivity/specificity of current screening methods, lack of reliable screening tests for some pathogens (e.g. prions) and the fact that many potentially harmful infectious agents are not routinely screened for. The vasoactive properties of 14 organic mononitrates were investigated in vitro using PGF(2alpha)-precontracted porcine pulmonary arteries. A surprisingly wide range of vasorelaxant potencies was observed (pD(2): 3.36-7.50). Activities showed to be highly sensitive to the molecular structure and the substituents at the molecular carrier of the nitrate group. A correlation between lipophilicity and vasorelaxant potency could not be recognized. 2-Nitrooxyethylammoniumnitrate (1) was found to be slightly superior to the high potency trinitrate GTN.

La presencialidad obligatoria en Educación Superior y el creciente número de estudiantes con compromisos familiares justifican la necesidad de conocer las opiniones del alumnado con respecto a la conciliación estudiantil-familiar en el contexto universitario. Justice and the Integrity of the Person, Cécile Fabre defiende que, en nombre de la justicia, los recursos de una sociedad deben redistribuirse entre los necesitados y que, entre esos recursos, está incluida la sangre humana, para cuya provisión propone la creación de un servicio civil obligatorio de donación de sangre. Towards a Comprehension of University Dropout in Catalonia: the Case of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona

The article presents the results of a research that aims to unfold the reasons behind students’ dropout at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Data is analyzed, and interviews and focus groups with students who have dropout, study degree’s coordinators and institutional authorities are carried out. Results indicate that part of the abandonment taking place is voluntary, natural and even necessary, when the student does not enter the desired option or discovers that the studies do not fi t with their vocational interests, but it also represents a misalignment between the academic offer and the students’ capabilities, performance and motivation.

En el presente artículo se estudian varios edificios de la Comunidad Valenciana, que se remontan a una época relativamente lejana. A la luz de los estudios recientes y de la investigación arqueológica se puede constatar la escasez de restos, a excepción de algún caso aislado. El contenido comprende fundamentalmente murallas, castillos, palacios señoriales, torres, algún convento o ermita, y el Jardín Botánico del palacio del Arzobispo en Puzol. Las comarcas donde se ubican los monumentos son: "el Camp de Morvedre", "el Camp del Turia", "l'Horta Nord", "la Plana de Utiel-Requena", "la Ribera Alta", "la Safor", "la Vall d'Albaida" y "la Costera". Este trabajo aborda el análisis de los discursos de jóvenes que han tenido dificultades en su itinerario educativo y que han participado en “itinerarios de segunda oportunidad”. A partir de entrevistas a jóvenes, pretendemos aproximarnos a los argumentos desde los que dan sentido a sus itinerarios académicos y a las decisiones a las que se han enfrentado. Estos argumentos muestran fuertes implicaciones de la posición social de los actores, y están influidos por agentes de la institución educativa y familiar. En el año 1860 se consumó el derribo total de la antigua Casa de la Ciudad de Valencia. ¿Edificio ruinoso o deliberadamente arruinado? A un cierto deterioro inicial no atendido correctamente se sumó el oprobio, la desidia, la inoperancia y la nefasta gestión de un gobierno municipal que cambiaba de presidencia con demasiada asiduidad en virtud de los vaivenes políticos y sociales. A ello se sumaron intereses económicos derivados de las nuevas alineaciones viales circundantes. El presente estudio desvela los pormenores de la pérdida de uno de los tantos edificios sucumbidos en la Valencia del siglo XIX. (A)
