Glycoprotein and ganglioside changes in human trophoblasts after exposure to pulsed doppler ultrasound

1995

Changes in glycoprotein and ganglioside composition in human trophoblasts (eighth week of gestation) after in vitro exposure to pulsed Doppler ultrasound (pulse duration 1.22 microseconds; repetition frequency 11.1 kHz; center frequency 4 MHz; ISPPA = 175.5 W/cm2; ISPTA = 0.59 W/cm2) were investigated. Evacuated trophoblasts were divided in two halves and insonated for 10 min on top of a 6-cm layer of 5% gelatin in 50-mL tubes (Falcon) at 37 degrees C. One half of each trophoblast was sham insonated and served as an internal control. After insonation trophoblasts were maintained at 37 degrees C for 24 h. Glycoproteins were detected using alpha-D-mannose specific lectins from Galanthus nival…

A Trajectory-Driven 3D Channel Model for Human Activity Recognition

2021

This paper concerns the design, analysis, and simulation of a 3D non-stationary channel model fed with inertial measurement unit (IMU) data. The work in this paper provides a framework for simulating the micro-Doppler signatures of indoor channels for human activity recognition by using radiofrequency-based sensing technologies. The major human body segments, such as wrists, ankles, torso, and head, are modelled as a cluster of moving point scatterers. We provide expressions for the time variant (TV) speed and TV angles of motion based on 3D trajectories of the moving person. Moreover, we present mathematical expressions for the TV Doppler shifts and TV path gains associated with each movin…

Normal Reference Ranges for Echocardiography: Rationale, study design, and methodology (NORRE Study)

2013

International audience; BACKGROUND: Availability of normative reference values for cardiac chamber dimensions, volumes, mass, and function is a prerequisite for the accurate application of echocardiography for both clinical and research purposes. However, due to the lack of consistency in current echocardiographic 'reference values', their use for clinical decision-making remains questionable. AIMS: The aim of the 'Normal Reference Ranges for Echocardiography Study (NORRE Study)' is to obtain a set of 'normal values' for cardiac chamber geometry and function in a large cohort of healthy Caucasian individuals aged over a wide range of ages (25-75 years) using both conventional and advanced e…

On the number of measurement sites required to assess regional cerebral blood flow by laser-Doppler scanning during cerebral ischemia and reperfusion.

2001

The aim of this study was to determine whether the number of measurement sites affected the precision of regional cerebral blood flow (CBF) assessment by Laser-Doppler (LD). A simulation study was applied based on data obtained by scanning the cortex in 25 rats during baseline conditions, 15 min global cerebral ischemia and reperfusion. Random samples were repeatedly collected from 1 to 100 locations and deviations from the median of the entire CBF data pool (800 locations) were determined. Single location CBF measurements missed the true median by 24.8+/-2.2 LD-units (baseline conditions, n=100 simulations, mean+/-SEM), 2.7+/-0.6 LD-units (ischemia), and 31.9+/-2.4 LD-units (30th min reper…

Quantitative Topography of the Hemodynamic-Oxidative Metabolic Interrelation by Multispot Measurement Approach in Rat Ischemia Models

2001

We applied the multispot measurement approach for both laser Doppler (LD) and a microspectrophotometric method to measure local cerebral blood flow (1CBF) and local tissue hemoglobin oxygenation (IHbO2). We demonstrated that the current technology permits in vivo observation, allowing us to establish a close topographical relation between CBF and HbO2. We measured 1CBF by LD flowmetry and tissue HbO2 by a microspectrophotometric method at multiple corresponding locations using a “scanning” technique that employs a computer-controlled micromanipulator. CBF and HbO2 data from predefined locations were correlated to the topographical situation and then arranged in a three-dimensional (3D) imag…

Possible Precision Far—Infrared Spectroscopy on Trapped Ions

1990

One of the necessary conditions for very high resolution spectroscopy is the existence of long-living energy levels between which transitions can be induced by tunable electromagnetic radiation. Moreover the observation time of the particles under investigation should be sufficiently long, and perturbing effects like Doppler broadening and collisions should be very small. All this leads to the technique of trapped ion spectroscopy which offers all the required conditions. It uses the confinement of charged particles to a very small volume in space under ultrahigh vacuum conditions either by application of a r.f. voltage and a small additional d.c. bias to an arrangement of three electrodes …

Transmission of arterial oxygen partial pressure oscillations to the cerebral microcirculation in a porcine model of acute lung injury caused by cycl…

2013

Cyclic recruitment and derecruitment (R/D) play a key role in the pathomechanism of acute lung injury (ALI) leading to respiration-dependent oscillations of arterial partial pressure of oxygen (Pa(O(2))). These Pa(O(2)) oscillations could also be forwarded to the cerebral microcirculation. In 12 pigs, partial pressure of oxygen was measured in the thoracic aorta (Pa(O(2))) and subcortical cerebral tissue (Pbr(O(2))). Cerebral cortical haemoglobin oxygen saturation (Sbr(O(2))), cerebral blood flow (CBF), and peripheral haemoglobin saturation (Sp(O(2))) were assessed by spectroscopy and laser Doppler flowmetry. Measurements at different fractions of inspired oxygen (F(I(O(2)))) were performed …

Lifetime Measurements of Low-lying States in $^{73}$Ga and $^{70,72,74}$Zn Isotopes

2019

International audience; Lifetimes of low-lying states in 73Ga and 70,72,74Zn were measured using the Recoil Distance Doppler Shift (RDDS) method. These nuclei were produced in deep-inelastic reactions in inverse kinematics with a 208Pb beam impinging on a 76Ge target. Prompt γ rays were detected using the AGATA tracking array coupled to the VAMOS++ spectrometer. Lifetime of the 5/2 − state in 73Ga, measured for the first time, provides additional evidence for the existence of a 1/2 −, 3/2 − ground-state doublet. The lifetimes of the 4 + states in 70,72,74Zn were remeasured in an attempt to understand the discrepancies observed between earlier measurements. Our results are in agreement with …

Inflammation, atherosclerotic burden and cardiovascular prognosis.

2006

The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of various inflammatory markers on atherosclerotic burden and cardiovascular prognosis. In a prospective study 720 patients preceding coronary angiography were enrolled. In all patients carotid and leg arteries were examined using sonographic methods and C-reactive protein, fibrinogen, interleukin-18 (IL-18) and interleukin-6 have been determined. Patients were compared with regard to atherosclerotic burden: no clinically significant stenosis (N=57, 7.9%), coronary artery disease only (N=362, 50.3%), coronary artery disease with peripheral atherosclerosis (=multi-vascular atherosclerosis, N=301, 41.8%).Follow-up data after a median of 6.5 year…
