The prevalence of nosocomial infections due to multidrug resistant (MDR) bacterial strains is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Folk medicine and ethnopharmacological data can provide a broad range of plants with promising antimicrobial activity. Triphala, an Ayurvedic formula composed of three different plants: Terminalia chebula Retz., Terminalia bellirica (Gaertn.) Roxb. (Combretaceae), and Phyllanthus emblica L. (Phyllanthaceae), is used widely for various microbial infections. Trehalose-hydroxyethylcellulose microspheres containing vancomycin for topical drug delivery.

Abstract A new formulation, in which vancomycin is entrapped into trehalose and hydroxyethylcellulose (Natrosol ® ) spherical matrices, is described. Microspheres were produced by the solvent evaporation method. The entrapped drug was fully recovered following microspheres dissolution. Differential scanning calorimetry analyses proved that Natrosol maintains trehalose in its amorphous form. The stabilizing effects of trehalose on vancomycin were evaluated even after long storage and heating of microspheres. Calorimetric data indicated no decomposition of the entrapped drug. The entrapment of fluoroquinolones, perfloxacine mesilate (PFX) and ofloxacin (OFX), in polyalkylcyanoacrylate (PECA) nanoparticles could offer some advantages for their biological application; for examples, increasing their bioavailability, controlling the drug time-release in blood, and reducing the formation of bacterial resistance. Abstract A recent solid pharmaceutical form called “Dry Adsorbed Emulsion” (DAE) was characterized in morphological and structural fields. A DAE is an intricate system initiated by a water‐in‐oil emulsion including the active drug (i.e., theophylline). Marine sponge collagen: isolation, characterization and effects on the skin parameters surface-pH, moisture and sebum

A previously described isolation procedure for collagen of the marine sponge Chondrosia reniformis Nardo was modified for scaling-up reasons yielding 30% of collagen (freeze-dried collagen in relation to freeze-dried sponge). Light microscope observations showed fibrous structures. Transmission electron microscopy studies proved the collagenous nature of this material: high magnifications showed the typical periodic banding-pattern of collagen fibres. The aim of the present study was to use gastrointestinal simulation technology and in vitro-in vivo correlation (IVIVC) as tools to investigate a possible extension of biowaiver criteria to BCS class II drugs using carbamazepine (CBZ) as a candidate compound. Gastrointestinal simulation based on the advanced compartmental absorption and transit model implemented in GastroPlus was used. The goal of this study was to investigate the in vitro-in vivo correlation (IVIVC) for fenofibrate immediate release (IR) tablet formulations based on MeltDose-technique. The in vitro determined drug solubility and permeability data were related to the C(max) values observed from two in vivo human studies.
