: Background: Splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL) is an infrequent B-cell neoplasm that pursues an indolent course. Signs and symptoms, mostly related to hypersplenism, are successfully managed by splenectomy. However, the therapy of patients who are not fit for a surgical procedure or who relapse after splenectomy, is still an unsettled issue. Summary Background Ifosfamide has important activity in pretreated soft tissue sarcomas (STS), and recent data support a clinically significant dose-response relationship for this agent. Administration by continuous infusion and hematopoietic support have rendered dose intensification regimens possible by reducing both hematologic and non-hematologic toxicities. Abstract Objective. A multicenter non-randomized phase II study was initiated to evaluate tolerability and efficacy of pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD) in combination with carboplatin in gynecologic malignancies. Methods. One hundred forty women with recurrent or advanced endometrial ( n =31), cervical or vaginal cancer ( n =31), uterine sarcomas ( n =11), or recurrent platinum-sensitive ovarian cancer ( n =67) received six courses of PLD 40 mg/m 2 and carboplatin (AUC 6) every 28 days. Does metformin induce ovulation in normoandrogenic anovulatory women?

Objective: This study was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of metformin in women with anovulation who do not have evidence for hyperandrogenism and classic polycystic ovary syndrome. Study design: A randomized trial of metformin (1500 mg daily) and placebo in 24 anovulatory women was undertaken for 3 months. Assessments of changes in hormone levels and insulin sensitivity were carried out. Abnormal ormonal values were defined by levels exceeding the range in normal ovulatory controls. Results: Anovulatory women had normal androgen levels and luteinizing hormone but had higher serum insulin and lower insulin sensitivity compared with controls. Pulsatile versus continuous oxytocin infusion for the oxytocin challenge test.

In a prospective study, 140 patients had an oxytocin challenge test with either a continuous or a pulsed infusion (one minute of infusion in every five minutes). Both infusion regimens had similar success rates in terms of uterine contractions (97.1 vs 98.6%). The potency ratio (pulsed versus continuous infusion) was significant at 2.7 (1.27 to 5.2), which means that more uterine activity was induced with each mU of oxytocin with pulsatile than with continuous administration.
