Stability of the human microbiome. Health and disease imprinted in the time variability of the human microbiota.
2019
Animal microbiota plays an essential role in keeping the physiological status of the host healthy. This microbiota consists of hundreds of different species that inhabit the host, and whose composition varies on a daily basis due to multiple factors as diets, medicine intakes, lifestyle or diseases. It is a highly dynamical system that shows variability even when the host is in a healthy condition, but visible changes happen when the system is perturbed. Thus, the main objective of this thesis aimed to study the temporal variability of human microbiota, and link it to the health status of the host. For this, we proposed a formal definition of stability in microbial systems based on the use …
Physico-chemical investigation of the state of cyanamide confined in AOT and lecithin reversed micelles
2004
Sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT) and lecithin reversed micelles containing cyanamide have been investigated by small-angle X-ray scattering, FT-IR, and 1H NMR spectroscopy at various cyanamide-to-surfactant molar ratio (X) and at fixed surfactant concentration (0.1 mol kg-1). Experimental data are consistent with a model of cyanamide molecules confined in reversed micelles, quite uniformly distributed among them and mainly located among surfactant headgroups. SAXS data analysis leads also to hypothesize a unidimensional growth of the reversed micelles with increasing the X value. Moreover, the cyanamide state and the cyanamide/cyanamide interactions in reversed micelles have bee…
Evaluation of the 2-Methoxyethanol as Entrainer in Ethanol–Water and 1-Propanol–Water Mixtures
2013
In this paper, 2-methoxyethanol (commercially known as methyl cellosolve) is proposed as a potential entrainer for extractive distillation processes involving water–alcohol mixtures. The two alcohols studied in this work are ethanol and 1-propanol. Thereby, isobaric vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) data at atmospheric pressure have been measured for the ternary systems ethanol + water + 2-methoxyethanol and 1-propanol + water + 2-methoxyethanol. Moreover, data of the binary systems formed by the 2-methoxyethanol and each of the other chemicals used (ethanol, water, 1-propanol) have been obtained. The well-known local composition models Wilson, UNIQUAC, and NRTL have been used to correlate bin…
Outside-host predation as a biological control against an environmental opportunist disease
2017
Abstract Environmentally growing opportunist pathogens are a common threat to human health and food production. Due to environmental growth of the pathogen, these diseases are difficult to control with disinfectants and antibiotics. Thus, there is a need for sustainable and effective control methods against environmentally growing opportunist diseases. Predation is often a major limiting factor in the outside host environment. Here we propose that it could be used in the biological control of these diseases. We introduce a novel epidemiological model for environmentally growing opportunists combining pathogen growth within-host (SI model) and outside-host into classical predator-prey model.…
High Quality Reconstruction of Dynamic Objects using 2D-3D Camera Fusion
2017
International audience; In this paper, we propose a complete pipeline for high quality reconstruction of dynamic objects using 2D-3D camera setup attached to a moving vehicle. Starting from the segmented motion trajectories of individual objects, we compute their precise motion parameters, register multiple sparse point clouds to increase the density, and develop a smooth and textured surface from the dense (but scattered) point cloud. The success of our method relies on the proposed optimization framework for accurate motion estimation between two sparse point clouds. Our formulation for fusing it closest-point and it consensus based motion estimations, respectively in the absence and pres…
Dehn surgeries and smooth structures on 3-dimensional transitive Anosov flows.
2020
The present thesis is about Dehn surgeries and smooth structures associated with transitive Anosov flows in dimension three. Anosov flows constitute a very important class of dynamical systems, because of its persistent chaotic behaviour, as well as for its rich interaction with the topology of the ambient space. Even if a lot is known about the dynamical and ergodic properties of these systems, there is not a clear understanding about how to classify its different orbital equivalence classes. Until now, the biggest progress has been done in dimension three, where there is a family of techniques intended for the construction of Anosov flows called surgeries.During the realization of this th…
Families of piecewise linear maps with constant Lyapunov exponent
2012
We consider families of piecewise linear maps in which the moduli of the two slopes take different values. In some parameter regions, despite the variations in the dynamics, the Lyapunov exponent and the topological entropy remain constant. We provide numerical evidence of this fact and we prove it analytically for some special cases. The mechanism is very different from that of the logistic map and we conjecture that the Lyapunov plateaus reflect arithmetic relations between the slopes.
Surface charges at the CaF2/water interface allow very fast intermolecular vibrational-energy transfer
2020
Abstract We investigate the dynamics of water in contact with solid calcium fluoride, where at low pH, localized charges can develop upon fluorite dissolution. We use 2D surface‐specific vibrational spectroscopy to quantify the heterogeneity of the interfacial water (D2O) molecules and provide information about the sub‐picosecond vibrational‐energy‐relaxation dynamics at the buried solid/liquid interface. We find that strongly H‐bonded OD groups, with a vibrational frequency below 2500 cm−1, display very rapid spectral diffusion and vibrational relaxation; for weakly H‐bonded OD groups, above 2500 cm−1, the dynamics slows down substantially. Atomistic simulations based on electronic‐structu…
Exploration of the Activation Mechanism of the Epigenetic Regulator MLL3: A QM/MM Study
2021
The mixed lineage leukemia 3 or MLL3 is the enzyme in charge of the writing of an epigenetic mark through the methylation of lysine 4 from the N-terminal domain of histone 3 and its deregulation has been related to several cancer lines. An interesting feature of this enzyme comes from its regulation mechanism, which involves its binding to an activating dimer before it can be catalytically functional. Once the trimer is formed, the reaction mechanism proceeds through the deprotonation of the lysine followed by the methyl-transfer reaction. Here we present a detailed exploration of the activation mechanism through a QM/MM approach focusing on both steps of the reaction, aiming to provide new…
STABILITY OF A STOCHASTICALLY PERTURBED MODEL OF INTRACELLULAR SINGLE-STRANDED RNA VIRUS REPLICATION
2019
Compared to the replication of double-stranded RNA and DNA viruses, the replication of single-stranded viruses requires the production of a number of intermediate strands that serve as templates for the synthesis of genomic-sense strands. Two theoretical extreme mechanisms for replication for such single-stranded viruses have been proposed; one extreme being represented by the so-called linear stamping machine and the opposite extreme by the exponential growth. Of course, real systems are more complex and examples have been described in which a combination of such extreme mechanisms can also occur: a fraction of the produced progeny resulting from a stamping-machine type of replication that…
