Duplexsonographische Untersuchungen zur Pathogenese der lienalen Hämodynamik bei Leberzirrhose

2008

AIM OF STUDY The haemodynamic role of the spleen in portal hypertension remains unclear. Duplex sonography was undertaken prospectively to discover the relationship of splenomegaly and splenic vein flow to type and severity of liver cirrhosis and portal vein flow, as well as to the degree of oesophageal varices. PATIENTS AND METHODS 89 patients (54 men, 35 women; mean age 52 [26-81] years), diagnosed in the second half of 1993 as having liver cirrhosis were consecutively included in the study. In 40 patients the cirrhosis was in stage A (according to Child-Pugh classification), in 31 in stage B and in 18 in stage C. RESULTS Portal vein flow fell significantly with increasing degree of cirrh…

The Principles of Quantum Theory

2013

This chapter develops the formal framework of quantum mechanics: the mathematical tools, generalization and abstraction of the notion of state, representation theory, and a first version of the postulates on which quantum theory rests.

Microvascular blood flow changes of the abductor pollicis brevis muscle during sustained static exercise

2021

A practical assessment of the general health and microvascular function of the palm muscle, abductor pollicis brevis (APB), is important for the diagnosis of different conditions. In this study, we have developed a protocol and a probe to study microvascular blood flow using near-infrared diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) in APB during and after thumb abduction at 55% of maximum voluntary contraction (MVC). Near-infrared time resolved spectroscopy (TRS) was also used to characterize the baseline optical and hemodynamic properties. Thirteen (n=13) subjects were enrolled and subdivided in low MVC (N=6, MVC<2.3 kg) and high MVC (N=7, MVC≥2.3 kg) groups. After ruling out significant cha…

Association between increased arterial stiffness and clinical outcomes in patients with early sepsis: a prospective observational cohort study.

2019

Background Conduit arteries, especially the aorta, play a major role in ensuring efficient cardiac function and optimal microvascular flow due to their viscoelastic properties. Studies in animals and on isolated arteries show that acute systemic inflammation can cause aortic stiffening which affects hemodynamic efficiency. Carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity, a measure of aortic stiffness, may be useful as a bedside investigational method in patients with early sepsis admitted to intensive care, as circulatory changes can lead to multiple organ failure and increased mortality. This study aims to investigate arterial stiffness in early sepsis and its association with clinical outcomes. Metho…

Laparoscopic approach to acute abdomen from the Consensus Development Conference of the Società Italiana di Chirurgia Endoscopica e nuove tecnologie …

2012

Abstract BACKGROUND: In January 2010, the SICE (Italian Society of Endoscopic Surgery), under the auspices of the EAES, decided to revisit the clinical recommendations for the role of laparoscopy in abdominal emergencies in adults, with the primary intent being to update the 2006 EAES indications and supplement the existing guidelines on specific diseases. METHODS: Other Italian surgical societies were invited into the Consensus to form a panel of 12 expert surgeons. In order to get a multidisciplinary panel, other stakeholders involved in abdominal emergencies were invited along with a patient's association. In November 2010, the panel met in Rome to discuss each chapter according to the D…

Left ventricular volume determination using colour superpositioning of contrast echocardiograms

1995

Abstract Objective: To delineate the endocardium, selective colouring of contrast regions in left ventricular contrast echocardiograms was performed using digital image processing. Methods: Volume determinations were performed in end-diastolic and end-systolic frames before and after the injection of contrast agent into the left ventricle and were compared to cineventriculograms in 30 patients by two independent investigators. Results: The mean end-diastolic volume measured was 114 ± 44 ml in the native, 235 ± 79 ml in the contrast, 175 ± 70 ml in the color-superimposed (observer 1), and 187 ± 79 ml in the cineventriculographic images. Thus, native echocardiograms underestimated angiographi…

Predictors of diuresis response to levosimendan administration in patients with acute heart failure

2021

Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Levosimendan, a calcium sensitizer and potassium channel-opener, is appreciated  for its effects on systemic and pulmonary hemodynamic and for the relief of symptoms in acute heart failure (AHF). Positive effects of levosimendan on renal function have been also described. The aim of the present analysis was to assess the predictors of the diuresis response to levosimendan administration in high risk acute heart failure patients. Methods We analysed 34 consecutive patients admitted with high risk AHF to one centre and treated in intensive cardiac care unit. Levosimendan was administered on top of other treatment as a 24-hour in…

Normalwerte für die Dobutamin-Streßechokardiographie*

2008

UNLABELLED Dobutamine stress echocardiography having established itself as a sensitive method for diagnosing coronary heart disease, even in the absence of normative values, the physiological haemodynamics as well as the physiological values for global and regional left ventricular myocardial function were measured. TEST PERSONS AND METHODS 14 healthy subjects (ten men, four women; median age 25 [range 21-32] years) underwent dobutamine stress echocardiography according to an internationally practised dosage steps protocol (5-40 micrograms/kg/min with additional 0.5 mg atropine at 40 micrograms). RESULTS Maximal infusion rate achieved a serum dobutamine level of 1.67 micrograms/ml with mini…

Hemodynamic Effects of Ventricular Pacing

1985

Fixed rate ventricular pacing is used in most cases of implanted pacemakers. It does not usually create considerable hemodynamic problems, as the heart, by its adaptation mechanism, is capable of varying its pump performance to meet the metabolic needs[1,3].
