Mean electromotive force in turbulent shear flow.
2002
We consider the mean electromotive force in turbulent shear flow taking into account the stretching of turbulent magnetic field lines by the mean flow. The mean flow can change the properties of magnetohydrodynamics-turbulence in such a way that turbulent motions become suitable for the dynamo action. The contribution of shear to the mean electromotive force cannot be described in terms of the alpha effect. The instability of the mean field arises if shear is sufficiently strong. The growth rate of instability depends on the length scale of the mean field being higher for the field with a smaller length scale. The considered mechanism may be responsible for the generation of large-scale mag…
Compression tests of cv. Nocellara del Belice table olives for texture evaluation during storage
2014
The influence of pasteurization temperature and time of treatment on the flesh firmness and the evolution of microbial communities was studied for table olives Cv. Nocellara del Belice, packed in glass jars and processed with a tunnel pasteurizer. Pasteurization at industrial scale was carried out within a tunnel pasteurizer applying the treatment at 75 °C for 8 min in the thermal center of the jars. Besides flesh firmness and microbial evolutions, pH, total ti-tratable acidity (TTA) and colour were evaluated for the table olives during storage at 6, 12 and 15 months from packing. Table olives showed a high stability and an acceptable flesh firmness for the entire period under observation. …
Study on the tunnel pasteurizer in table olives processing
2014
The application of heat treatment is especially important in maintaining the organoleptic characteristics of fermented agro-food products, which potential consumers perceive as reflecting the quality of these foodstuffs. However, heat treatments can be cause of deterioration of many quality parameters of agro-food products including texture, intended as the consistency of the pulp. Pasteurization is one of the most important steps of the table olives packaging process; it is applied after that olives are properly treated for debittering process. In this study ‘Nocellara del Belice’ table olives produced in 2010 and packaged in glass jars, were subjected to pasteurization at industrial scale…
The polarimetric and helioseismic imager on solar orbiter
2020
This paper describes the Polarimetric and Helioseismic Imager on the Solar Orbiter mission (SO/PHI), the first magnetograph and helioseismology instrument to observe the Sun from outside the Sun-Earth line. It is the key instrument meant to address the top-level science question: How does the solar dynamo work and drive connections between the Sun and the heliosphere? SO/PHI will also play an important role in answering the other top-level science questions of Solar Orbiter, as well as hosting the potential of a rich return in further science. SO/PHI measures the Zeeman effect and the Doppler shift in the FeI 617.3nm spectral line. To this end, the instrument carries out narrow-band imaging…
Supersaturation and activity-rotation relation in PMS stars: the young Cluster h Per
2016
The magnetic activity of late-type MS stars is characterized by different regimes, and their activity levels are well described by Ro, the ratio between P_rot and the convective turnover time. Very young PMS stars show, similarly to MS stars, intense magnetic activity. However they do not show clear activity-rotation trends, and it still debated which stellar parameters determine their magnetic activity levels. To bridge the gap between MS and PMS stars, we studied the activity-rotation relation in the young cluster h Per, a ~13 Myr old cluster, that contains both fast and slow rotators, whose members have ended their accretion phase and have already developed a radiative core. It offers us…
The Total Work Measured During a High Intensity Isokinetic Fatigue Test Is Associated With Anaerobic Work Capacity.
2016
The purpose of the study was to determine whether total work measured during a high intensity isokinetic fatigue test (TWFAT) could be considered as a valid measure of anaerobic work capacity (AWC), such as determined by total work measured during a Wingate Anaerobic Test (TWWAnT). Twenty well-trained cyclists performed 2 randomly ordered sessions involving a high intensity isokinetic fatigue test consisting in 30 reciprocal maximal concentric contractions of knee flexors and extensors at 180°·s(-1), and a Wingate Anaerobic Test. We found that TWFAT of knee extensors was largely lower than TWWAnT (4151 ± 691 vs 22313 ± 2901 J, respectively, p0.05, Hedge's g = 4.27). Both measures were highl…
Intermittency in the homopolar disk-dynamo
2006
We study a modified Bullard dynamo and show that this system is equivalent to a nonlinear oscillator subject to a multiplicative noise. The stability analysis of this oscillator is performed. Two bifurcations are identified, first towards an \lq\lq intermittent\rq\rq state where the absorbing (non-dynamo) state is no more stable but the most probable value of the amplitude of the oscillator is still zero and secondly towards a \lq\lq turbulent\rq\rq (dynamo) state where it is possible to define unambiguously a (non-zero) most probable value around which the amplitude of the oscillator fluctuates. The bifurcation diagram of this system exhibits three regions which are analytically characteri…
Towards a rapidly rotating liquid sodium dynamo experiment
2002
The main characteristics of the Earth's dynamo are reviewed. The combined actions of Coriolisand Lorentz forces lead to the so--called ``magnetostrophic'' regime. We derive an estimate of the power needed to sustain the magnetic field in this regime. We show that an experimentwith liquid sodium can be designed to operate in the magnetostrophic regime. Such an experiment would bring most valuable informations on the mechanisms of planetary dynamos. In order toprepare this large--scale experiment and explore the magnetostrophic balance, a smaller scale liquid sodium set--up has been designed and is being built. It consists of a rapidly rotating spherical shell filled with liquid sodium, in wh…
The Effect of the Cranial Electrotherapy on the Muscle Motor Function in Different Operating Modes
2015
The aim of the present study was to analyze the effect of cranial electrotherapy stimulation on muscle function analysis indicators. Instrumental assessment of muscle function (on a REV9000, Technogym, Italy) was performed before and after cranial electrotherapy stimulation, assessments of the muscle function was performed during knee extension maximum voluntary, isometric contraction (MVIC), angle velocity with load 45Nm isotonic contraction and maximum pick torque in isokinetic contraction on 30°/s, 200°/s and 300°/s and neuromuscular efficiency measurements. To analyze data was used Excel program Statistics 3.1. Subjects of our study were twenty healthy athletes of sport fitness. 1 minu…
