Developing functional foods to improve the quality of life for elderly people has great economic and social impact. Searching for and validating ingredients with in vivo antioxidant effects is one of the key steps in developing this kind of food. Here we describe the combined use of simple biological models and transcriptomics to define the functional intracellular molecular targets of a polyphenol-enriched cocoa powder. Abstract This research aimed at extending the choice of natural antimicrobials/antioxidants for food applications. Four plant extracts, Posidonia oceanica (PO), Green Tea (GT), Grape seeds (GS) and Grape skin (GK), were analyzed to determine their total phenolic content, antioxidant activity and in vitro antimicrobial performance. PO extract showed the highest total phenolic content (711 mg gallic acid/g extract) and antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger and Penicillium chrysogenum . Par Gada augu 2020 tika izvēlēts Latvijas aizsargājamais augs ruiša pūķgalve, ko Latvijā pirmo reizi atradis dabaspētnieks Eduards Lēmanis (1841 – 1902) 1883. gadā Antonopolē. Tas kopā ar citiem ruiša pūķgalves herbārija paraugiem glabājas Latvijas Universitātes Muzeja Botānikas un mikoloģijas kolekcijās. Tie ir gan Latvijā, gan Igaunijā ievākti eksemplāri laika posmā no 1848. līdz 1977. gadam.

Abstract Background Appointment no-show and early dropout from treatment represent major challenges in outpatient substance use disorder treatment, adversely affecting clinical outcomes and health care productivity. In this quasi-experimental study, we examined how a brief reminder intervention for new patients before their first appointment affected treatment participation and retention. Este estudio exploratorio y comprensivo destaca los saberes personales de los docentes transmitidos durante el EPS. La investigación presenta tres viñetas didácticas clínicas de los docentes especialistas en judo. Los resultados muestran que estos saberes personales se construyeron durante la práctica de este deporte cuando estos docentes eran jóvenes practicantes. Se destaca el papel de lo que «se encuentra presente por la experiencia» («déjà-là expérientiel») y de los efectos en las concepciones de los docentes, en relación con el conocimiento personal de estos. En este trabajo vamos a relacionar la película de Benito Zambrano Solas (1999) con el género o familia de films del melodrama de la mujer desconocida que propone Cavell (2009). Para ello, después de introducir el “método” asociativo cavelliano, vamos a presentar los rasgos más característicos de dicho género y la imagen de la mujer que en ellos se dibuja: el autoconocimiento de la protagonista, su relación con el mundo masculino, su emancipación del mismo a través de la conquista de la voz. La búsqueda de la felicidad en el trabajo es un objetivo de enorme importancia para muchas personas y organizaciones. Sin embargo, existe una carencia importante la investigación acerca de cómo aumentarla (Chivato Pérez et al., 2011), así como una amplia dispersión de medidas relacionadas (Hackman, 2009). No se conoce ninguna medida que recoja con la suficiente amplitud la medición de la felicidad en el trabajo (Fisher, 2010), por lo que en este estudio proponemos un modelo integrativo que nos aporte la medida de este nuevo constructo.
