Injury in elite women soccer and national women soccer in the lower extremity
2018
Purpose: Analyse the epidemiology of women's soccer harmful depending on the category of game. Materials and Methods: There were 26 participants (38 Super League and 32 National League women) with a mean age of 21.20 ± 4.64 years and body mass index (BMI) of 21.94 ± 1.79 kg/m2. There are several reasons why the health problems of the women’s soccer must be taken into account. Among these reasons, we think that the speed actions in this sport will have a great impact on the health of competitors. In addition, the women are more prone to overuse injuries due to the morphological characteristics. Results: Musculoskeletal injuries and pain were importance to women’s soccer of two levels. This w…
Tetralogy of Fallot as a Model to Study Cardiac Progenitor Cell Migration and Differentiation During Heart Development
2009
Tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) has long been considered a congenital disorder that occurs due to environmental alterations during gestation. Recently, several mutated genes have been discovered that are thought to be responsible for the malformations observed in ToF. These genetic mutations, which are microdeletions, are sporadic and are frequently also present in trisomy 21 patients. The ToF malformations can be lethal, but for the last 50 years, surgical repairs that place an artificial patch to repair the four features of ToF have improved the survival of patients with ToF. However, 0.5% to 6% of patients who survive after surgical repair of ToF die of sudden cardiac death caused by ventricul…
The Rockefeller Foundation and the League of Nations: Public Health in Europe (1920-1945)
2021
The Rockefeller Foundation (RF) and the League of Nations (LON) played a fundamental role in stabilization policies during the interwar period. Public health became essential in this context due to the immediate consequences of the war, the post-war economic crisis and the Great Depression. RF and LON became the cornerstone of international action in several fields: epidemics, famine, malnutrition, infectious diseases, infant mortality, drug abuse, biological and dietary standard-setting, epidemiological records, public health policies and professionalization. In the shaping international health expertise, LON and RF collaboration was extremely important, in terms of determining goals and p…
Screening for colorectal cancer with immunochemical faecal occult blood tests.
2012
Population-based studies have shown that guaiac faecal occult blood testing followed by colonoscopy in case of positivity can reduce colorectal cancer mortality. However these tests have been criticised for their fairly low sensitivity. For this reason attention has been given to alternative tests. The aim of this paper is to review the evidence for screening for colorectal cancer using qualitative immunochemical faecal occult blood tests. For the complete range of tested cut-off values, immunochemical faecal occult blood tests lead to higher diagnostic yield, improved sensitivity and greater participation. The optimal number of samples and the optimal cut-off value has to suit local resour…
Modulation of central corneal thickness by various riboflavin eyedrop compositions in porcine corneas
2012
Purpose To evaluate the modulatory effect of various riboflavin 0.1% and 0.2% compositions on the central corneal thickness (CCT) in fresh porcine corneas. Setting Department of Ophthalmology, Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Mainz, Germany. Design Experimental study. Methods The CCT in freshly enucleated porcine globes was measured by ultrasound pachymetry before and after (if applicable) deepithelialization and every 10 minutes thereafter during 120 minutes of eyedrop application. In Groups 1 and 2 (controls), no eyedrops were applied. In Groups 3 and 4, isotonic riboflavin eyedrops were used. In Groups 5 to 9, hypotonic riboflavin eyedrops were given. In Groups 10 and 11, preparat…
Histologische und histoautoradiographische Untersuchungen zur Wanddicke und zum Zellumsatz am interponierten Hundedünndarm nach totaler Gastrektomie
1979
Total gastrectomy was performed on purebred beagle dogs and a 30--40 cm jejunal segment was grafted isoperistaltically between oesophagus and duodenum. Histological and histoautoradiographical examinations were carried out and the wall-thickness and the cell-transformation rate in the interponate determined. Despite the isoperistaltic substitute-stomach a muscular wall-hypertrophy of 140% of the interponated jejunum was found. The reason for this hypertrophy is thought to be the result of adhesions and the functional mechanical demands. Histoautoradiographical examinations confirmed that the regeneration time in the substitute-stomach decreased by 70% compared with the normal jejunum. The d…
Multifactorial individualised programme for hamstring muscle injury risk reduction in professional football: protocol for a prospective cohort study
2020
IntroductionHamstring muscle injuries (HMI) continue to plague professional football. Several scientific publications have encouraged a multifactorial approach; however, no multifactorial HMI risk reduction studies have been conducted in professional football. Furthermore, individualisation of HMI management programmes has only been researched in a rehabilitation setting. Therefore, this study aims to determine if aspecificmultifactorial and individualised programme can reduce HMI occurrence in professional football. Methods and analysisWe conducted a prospective cohort study over two seasons within the Finnish Premier League and compare the amount of HMI sustained during a control season to…
Transcription factors controlling development and function of innate lymphoid cells.
2014
Abstract Innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) are a heterogeneous group of lymphocytes, which play an important role in tissue homeostasis at epithelial surfaces. They are scarce in spleen and lymph nodes, but substantial numbers can be found in the intestinal mucosa even at steady state. There, they represent the first line of defence against invading pathogens and contribute to lymphorganogenesis, tissue repair and, when inappropriately activated, immune pathology. Lineage-specific development, function and maintenance of these cells depend on a restricted set of transcription factors that partially emerged as a result of diversification and selection during vertebrate evolution. The differential…

Autobiografía y memoria en el diario de viajes del VI Conde de Fernán Núñez = Autobiography and Memory in the Travel Diary of the VI Count of Fernán …
2016
