Star-disk interaction in classical T Tauri stars revealed using wavelet analysis

The extension of the corona of classical T Tauri stars (CTTS) is under discussion. The standard model of magnetic configuration of CTTS predicts that coronal magnetic flux tubes connect the stellar atmosphere to the inner region of the disk. However, differential rotation may disrupt these long loops. The results from Hydrodynamic modeling of X-ray flares observed in CTTS confirming the star-disk connection hypothesis are still controversial. Since the day of its explosion, SN 1987A (SN87A) was closely monitored with the aim to study its evolution and to detect its central compact relic. The detection of neutrinos from the supernova strongly supports the formation of a neutron star (NS). However, the constant and fruitless search for this object has led to different hypotheses on its nature. In arid and semi-arid ecosystems, shortage of water can trigger changes in landscapes’ structures and function leading to degradation and desertification. Hydrological connectivity is a useful framework for understanding water redistribution and scaling issues associated with runoff and sediment production, since human and/or natural disturbances alter surface water availability and pathways increasing/decreasing connectivity. This paper proposes a new geometry-based channel model for shallow-water ocean environments, in which the ocean bottom can slope gently down/up. The need for developing such an underwater acoustic (UWA) channel model is driven by the fact that the standard assumption of a flat ocean bottom does not hold in many realistic scenarios. Starting from a geometrical model, we develop a stochastic channel model for wideband single-input single-output vehicle-to-vehicle UWA channels using the ray theory assuming smooth ocean surface and bottom. Palaeobiogeography of Austral echinoid faunas: a first quantitative approach

Few studies have been devoted to the palaeobiogeography of Antarctic echinoids, all of them analysing and discussing distribution patterns in a qualitative way. The present work aims at exploring the evolution of palaeobiogeographic relationships of Austral echinoid faunas through four time intervals, from the Maastrichtian to the present day, using a quantitative approach: the Bootstrapped Spanning Network procedure. Analyses were successfully performed and improve our knowledge of biogeographic relationships between the different Austral regions. Abstract The excavations carried out by L. Pericot from 1929 to 1931 in the Cova del Parpallo documented the Gravettian in the base, a Solutrean layer, and a Magdalenian. This sequences comprise an exceptional assemblage of portable art because of the number of plaquets/objects and the great chronological amplitude. With all this information, Parpallo was included in the reduced list of reference sites to organize the European Upper Paleolithic sequence in the first half of the 20th century. Typification of the name Abies nebrodensis (Pinaceae)

Abies nebrodensis, endemic to the Madonie mountains (central-north Sicily), was originally described by Lojacono Pojero as A. pectinata var. nebrodensis and later raised to the rank of species. The species is considered to be critically endangered and was thought to be extinct until an extant population was rediscovered in 1957. The name is here lectotypified on a specimen preserved at NAP.
