Hybrids composites of NCCO/PEDOT for thermoelectric applications

2017

Abstract Organic materials are becoming a realistic roadway to fabricate efficient thermoelectric devices using environmental friendly materials. Such requirements are actually fulfilled by thermoelectric generators operating by conducting polymers, but also by hybrid materials. The combination of organic + inorganic compounds may exhibit a high electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient as well as lower thermal conductivity in order to efficiently generate thermoelectric power. In these hybrid compounds, perovskite-type oxides are a suitable election for the inorganic part since they have a high Seebeck coefficient although their electrical conductivity is usually low. Blending them w…

Three dimensional PEDOT nanowires network

2016

Abstract A three dimensional (3D) structure of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) nanowires have been prepared by electrochemical polymerization using 3D-alumina templates. The templates were synthesized by pulse anodization in an electrochemical bath. A 3D free standing network has been obtained after the template removal. The morphological analysis by electron microscopy shows the existence of a 3D PEDOT nanowires network whose nanowire diameter is around 20 nm for the vertical nanowires and 10 nm for the transversal connections. Electrical properties such as the I–V characteristics and the Seebeck coefficient were studied for the nanowires network. Also, the optical properties have…

Thermal sensor based on a polymer nanofilm

2016

In this work, we have developed a thermal sensor based on poly(3,4 ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) nanofilms as thermoelectric material. The PEDOT nanofilms have been synthesized by the electrochemical polymerization method. The thicknesses of the films were around 120 nm. The doping level of PEDOT was controlled by chemical reduction using hydrazine. The achieved Seebeck coeficient is 40 uV/K. A PEDOT nanofilm was integrated into an electronic circuit that amplifies the voltage originated from the Seebeck effect. The temperature increment produced by a fingerprint touching the film is enough to switch on a light emitting diode. Peer Reviewed

Evaluation of lens absorbed dose with Cone Beam IGRT procedures

2015

The purpose of this work is to evaluate the absorbed dose to the eye lenses due to the cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) system used to accurately position the patient during head-and-neck image guided procedures. The on-board imaging (OBI) systems (v.1.5) of Clinac iX and TrueBeam (Varian) accelerators were used to evaluate the imparted dose to the eye lenses and some additional points of the head. All CBCT scans were acquired with the Standard-Dose Head protocol from Varian. Doses were measured using thermoluminescence dosimeters (TLDs) placed in an anthropomorphic phantom. TLDs were calibrated at the beam quality used to reduce their energy dependence. Average dose to the lens due to …

Examination of the fetal brain by transabdominal three-dimensional ultrasound: potential for routine neurosonographic studies

2006

Objective To evaluate the role of transabdominal three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound in the assessment of the fetal brain and its potential for routine neurosonographic studies. Methods We studied prospectively 202 consecutive fetuses between 16 and 24 weeks' gestation. A 3D ultrasound volume of the fetal head was acquired transabdominally. The entire brain anatomy was later analyzed using the multiplanar images by a sonologist who was expert in neonatal cranial sonography. The quality of the conventional planes obtained (coronal, sagittal and axial, at different levels) and the ability of the 3D multiplanar neuroscan to visualize properly the major anatomical structures of the brain were eva…

Identification of Beijerinckia fluminensis strains CIP 106281T and UQM 1685T as Rhizobium radiobacter strains, and proposal of Beijerinckia doeberein…

2009

During the course of a research project with free-living, nitrogen-fixing bacteria, we determined the 16S rRNA gene sequence of Beijerinckia fluminensis strains UQM 1685T and CIP 106281T and discovered that they were only 90.6–91.2 % similar to the sequences of strains of other Beijerinckia species and subspecies. Moreover, the highest similarity to these sequences (99.7 %) corresponded to strains of Rhizobium radiobacter (including Agrobacterium tumefaciens). Other diagnostic features confirmed that the two strains have the same origin but do not descend from the nomenclatural type. At the same time, B. fluminensis LMG 2819 was characterized and it was found that its properties also do not…

A comparative analysis to study editing of small noncoding BC200- and Alu transcripts in brain of prion-inoculated rhesus monkeys (M. Mulatta).

2012

Small retroelements (short interspersed elements, abbreviated SINEs) are abundant in vertebrate genomes. Using RNA isolated from rhesus monkey cerebellum and buffy coat, reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT PCR) was applied to clone cDNA of BC200 and Alu RNAs. Transcripts containing Alu-SINE sequences may be subjected to extensive RNA editing by ADAR (adenosine deaminases that act on RNA) deamination. Abundance of Alu transcripts was determined with real-time RT PCR and was significantly higher than BC200 (brain cytoplasmic) in cerebellum. BC200 transcripts were absent from buffy coat cells. Availability of the rhesus genome sequence allowed the BC200 transcripts to be mapped…
