Tentorial Incision vs. Retraction of the Tentorial Edge during the Subtemporal Approach: Anatomical Comparison in Cadaveric Dissections and Retrospec…

2018

Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to compare tentorial incision (group A) versus retraction and tack up suture (group B) of the tentorial edge during the subtemporal approach for surgery in the high basilar region. Design 24 cadaveric dissections and 4 clinical cases of aneurysms of the high basilar region are presented. Assessment included visibility and operability afforded by either tentorial incision creating a dural flap (group A) or retraction of the tentorial edge and tethering with a suture (group B). Four patients, two with superior cerebellar artery aneurysms and two with proximal posterior cerebral artery aneurysms were treated with each approach. Results In the quanti…

A particle based simulation model for glacier dynamics

2013

This publication is contribution number 22 of the Nordic Centre of Excellence SVALI, “Stability and Variations of Arctic Land Ice”, funded by the Nordic Top-level Research Initiative (TRI). The work has been supported by the SVALI project through the University of Lapland, Arctic Centre, and through the University Centre in Svalbard. Funding was also provided by the Conoco-Phillips and Lunding High North Research Program (CRIOS: Calving Rates and Impact on Society). A particle-based computer simulation model was developed for investigating the dynamics of glaciers. In the model, large ice bodies are made of discrete elastic particles which are bound together by massless elastic beams. These…

La distribution des tuiles estampillées de la VIIIe légion Augusta autour de Mirebeau-sur-Bèze (Côte-d'Or, France)

2011

The 8th Augustan Legion was installed at Mirebeau-sur-Bèze (Côte-d'Or) after 70 AD following the troubles that arose with the Lingons. It remained there until the time of Domitian, a period of roughly twenty years, during which time the soldiers produced tiles stamped with the name of the legion. Analysis of the dispersion of the tiles in the region around Mirebeau shows that they followed the communication routes. Consideration of the contexts in which these tiles were used, their number on each site and the resources necessary to manufacture them reveals that the 8th Legion may have played a significant role in the diffusion and adoption of tiled roofs, a construction technique that was t…

Numerical Simulation of the Kinetics of Radical Decay in Single-Pulse High-Energy Electron-Irradiated Polymer Aqueous Solutions

2019

A new method for the numerical simulation of the radiation chemistry of aqueous polymer solutions is introduced. The method makes use of a deterministic approach combining the conventional homogeneous radiation chemistry of water with the chemistry of polymer radicals and other macromolecular species. The method is applied on single-pulse irradiations of aqueous polymer solutions. The speciation of macromolecular species accounts for the variations in the number of alkyl radicals per chain, molecular weight, and number of internal loops (as a consequence of an intramolecular radical-radical combination). In the simulations, the initial polymer molecular weight, polymer concentration, and do…

Über die Verbreitung von Flavonoiden bei pleurokarpen Laubmoosen II. Apigenin and Apigenin-7-rhamnoglucosid bei Pleurozium schreberi (Willd.) Mitt.

1980

Summary 12 species of pleurocarpous mosses have been investigated as to their content of flavonoids. Flavonoid tests on 11 species have given negative results. Only one species, Pleurozium schreberi , contains three flavonoids. They were purified by means of paper chromatography. Two of them are by chromatography, acid hydrolysis and absorption spectrum identical with apigenin and apigenin-7-rhamnoglucoside. The third flavonoid is as yet unidentified. Qualitative hydrolysis yields apigenin. The chemotaxonomic importance of the results is briefly discussed.

Enhanced thermoelectric performance of PEDOT with different counter-ions optimized by chemical reduction

2014

This work reports on the synthesis of the intrinsically conducting polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) doped with several counter-ions, ClO4, PF6 and bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (BTFMSI), by electro-polymerization and its thermoelectric properties. We show that, depending on the counter-ion size, the thermoelectric efficiency of PEDOT can be increased up to two orders of magnitude. A further chemical reduction with hydrazine optimizes the power factor (PF). By changing the counter-ions, we were able to increase the electrical conductivity (σ) of PEDOT by a factor of three, while the Seebeck coefficient remains at the same order of magnitude in the three polymers. The best…

Xyloglucan-derived oligosaccharides induce ethylene synthesis in persimmon (Diospyros kaki L.) fruit

1998

In this work the effect of injection of xyloglucan-derived oligosaccharides (XGOs) into whole persimmon (Diospyros kaki L.) fruits on ethylene biosynthesis was investigated. Fruits collected during different ripening stages produced low levels of ethylene without a climacteric-like peak. Pretreatment of these fruits with 10 cm 3 C 2 H4 m -3 for 8 h stimulated little or no endogenous ethylene production. However, when persimmon fruits were injected with a mixture of XGOs a burst in ethylene production was observed compared with water-injected control fruits or fruits injected with different monosaccharide solutions. In order to study the influence of oligosaccharide structure and fruit ripen…

New conducting radical salts based upon Keggin-type polyoxometalates and perylene

2004

Three new radical salts, Per6[PMo12O40]·CH2Cl2 (1), Per6[PMo12O40]·CH3CN (2), and Per9(NBu4)4[SiW12O40]2 (3) (Per = perylene), have been synthesised and their electrical and magnetic properties characterised. These three salts are diamagnetic and they behave as semiconductors with room temperature conductivities of 69, 3.6 and 0.85 S cm−1. While salt 2 presents hole-type conduction and 3 exhibits electron-dominated electrical transport properties, salt 1 shows at 150 K an abrupt change in the thermal dependence of the electrical conductivity and the Seebeck coefficient suggesting a phase transition.

Unités phraséologiques au pays de la traduction: transfert des collocations nomino-adjectivales avec le lexème «femme» dans la traduction de la litté…

2022

The present paper examines the transfer of nomino-adjectival collocations based on the word ‘femme’ (‘woman’) in the literary translation from French into Italian and Polish. The lexical connection analysed in the article can be defined as the habitual juxtaposition of a word with another word (or words) that has a significant frequency in a given language. The research corpus comprises seven Michel Houellebecq’s novels written originally in French and their Italian and Polish versions. The theoretical part of the paper aims to present phraseotranslation and phraseotraductol-ogy, which are the new subbranches in phraseology. Then, the empirical part proposes the analysis of techniques used …
