Thermal imaging ruled out as a supplementary assessment in patients with fibromyalgia: A cross-sectional study
2021
Background The diagnosis of fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) syndrome is often complicated and relies on diagnostic criteria based mostly on the symptoms reported by patients. Implementing objective complementary tests would be desirable to better characterize this population. Objective The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to compare the skin temperature at rest using thermography in women with FMS and healthy women. Methods Eighty-six women with FMS and 92 healthy controls volunteered to participate. The temperature of all participants was measured by infra-red thermography, registering the skin surface temperature (minimum, maximum and average) at rest in different areas: neck, upper…
Pecking Order Versus Trade-off: An Empirical Approach to the Small and Medium Enterprise Capital Structure
2003
In this paper, we explore two of the most relevant theories that explain financial policy in small and medium enterprises (SMEs): pecking order theory and trade-off theory. Panel data methodology is used to test the empirical hypotheses over a sample of 6482 Spanish SMEs during the five-year period 1994?1998. The results suggest that both theoretical approaches contribute to explain capital structure in SMEs. However, while we find evidence that SMEs attempt to achieve a target or optimum leverage (trade-off model), there is less support for the view that SMEs adjust their leverage level to their financing requirements (pecking order model). En este trabajo, exploramos dos de las teorías má…
Capital Structure and Sensitivity in SME Definition: A Panel Data Investigation
2003
We provide an empirical examination of the pecking order theory on capital structure in the field of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). We mainly investigate if the results are sensitive to different definitions commonly used for these types of companies. Our evidence offers strong support for the growth opportunities and cash flow hypotheses. Firms that have many growth opportunities and small cash flows clearly show more debt in their capital structure. Moreover, results do not change when different SME definitions or sample sizes are used.
Modal and Structural FEM Analysis of a 50 ft Pleasure Yacht
2012
In this paper a structural Finite Element analysis of a 50 ft pleasure vessel is presented. The study is performed under different loads conditions: modal analyses have been done in order to find the natural frequencies of the vessel, structural analyses to verify the strength of the vessel to design loads. The design loads for the vessel considered are computed according to RINA rules for the construction and classification of pleasure vessels [1]. Two different composites are used for the lamination: one is a monolithic sequence of short fibre and balanced glass lamina, used for the bottom of the vessel and for structural reinforcements, the other is a sandwich made of glass fibre composi…
Real-Time Routing Selection in Flexible Manufacturing Systems
1993
Routing flexibility is one of the main peculiarities of Flexible Manufacturing Systems. This paper proposes three methods for real-time routing selection. The first one makes decisions comparing the current workload of machines in each alternative path. The second method considers the current workloads at the bottleneck machines in each allowed route. The third approach makes real-time decisions minimizing a merit index that represents a measure of the still required resource amount. The index is computed by short discrete-event simulation runs. Some case studies evaluate and compare the proposed approaches.
Subjectivity Squared. On the Similarity between the Methodological Postulates of Alfred Schütz and Florian Znaniecki regarding Christian Pedagogy
2019
„Podmiotowość podniesiona do kwadratu” to kategoria z zakresu metodologii utworzona przez autora tego artykułu na potrzeby niniejszych analiz, odnosząca się do pewnego strukturalnego aspektu procedury badań społecznych, obecnego w różnych stanowiskach i koncepcjach przedstawicieli nauk humanistycznych i społecznych. Aspekt ten uwidacznia się przede wszystkim w jednoczesnym uwzględnieniu podmiotowości badanych ludzi (jednostek, grup i całych społeczności) i badaczy, powiązanych różnymi relacjami z badanymi. Termin „podmiotowość drugiego stopnia” odwołuje się do dwóch innych sformułowań. Pierwszym jest określenie A. Schütza o „podmiotowości drugiego stopnia”. Autorem drugiego jest J. Szacki –…
Stability in a System subject to Noise with Regulated Periodicity
2011
The stability of a simple dynamical system subject to multiplicative one-side pulse noise with hidden periodicity is investigated both analytically and numerically. The stability analysis is based on the exact result for the characteristic functional of the renewal pulse process. The influence of the memory effects on the stability condition is analyzed for two cases: (i) the dead-time-distorted poissonian process, and (ii) the renewal process with Pareto distribution. We show that, for fixed noise intensity, the system can be stable when the noise is characterized by high periodicity and unstable at low periodicity.

Palladium-Catalyzed Carbon–Carbon Cross-Coupling Reactions in Thermomorphous Double Emulsions
2015
The method of combining the concept of fluorous biphasic catalysis (FCB) with micro multiple emulsions benefits from the advantages of homogeneous as well as from heterogeneous catalysis in continuous micro flow. In this particular case, three immiscible fluid phases in continuous micro segmented flow were used to perform palladium-catalyzed Heck crosscoupling reactions of styrene with aryl halides. A capillary tube-in-tube coaxial flow setup in combination with a glass micro reactor was used to produce monodisperse aqueous phase/organic phase/perfluorinated phase double emulsions. The resulting emulsions had a core-shell droplet structure composed of a perfluorcarbon fluid in which a palla…
