Sensitivity of three commercial tests for SARS-CoV-2 serology in children: an Italian multicentre prospective study

2022

Abstract Background US Food and Drug Administration has issued Emergency Use Authorizations for hundreds of serological assays to support Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) diagnosis. The aim of this study is to evaluate, for the first time in children, the performance of three widely utilized SARS-CoV-2 serology commercial assays, Diesse Diagnostics (IgG, IgA, IgM) and Roche Diagnostics, both Roche Nucleocapsid (N) IgG and Roche Spike (S) IgG assays. Methods Sensitivity and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated for each of the three different serological tests and mixed and direct comparison were performed. Univariate and multivariate Poisson regression mo…

Die feinstruktur der fligelschuppen einiger Lycaeniden (Insecta, Lepidoptera)

1970

Green, blue and violet colours of Lycaenidae examined by us — with the exception of Rapala arata (Theclinae) — are due to iridescent scales which are arranged before a dark background. The iridescent scales are constructed according to the Urania-type and may be diverted from pigmented scales by laying in equidistant lamellae and little cuticular bars, which maintain the distance between the lamellae. The ribs in the longitudinal axis of the scales contain lamellae and bars only in the Plebejinae, in Lycaeninae and Theclinae they are small and sit on the plain upperside of the scale with a narrow base.

Come un figlio. Variazioni tematiche e modalità narrative. A proposito di sen. contr. 10, 2 e decl. min. 258

2016

Chaperonopathies of senescence and the scrambling of interactions between the chaperoning and the immune systems

2010

Aging entails progressive deterioration of molecules and supramolecular structures, including Hsp chaperones and their complexes, paralleled by functional decline. Recent research has changed our views on Hsp chaperones. They work inside and outside cells in many locations, alone or forming teams, interacting with cells, receptors, and molecules that are not chaperones, in roles that are not typically attributed to chaperones, such as protein folding. Hsp chaperones form a physiological system with a variety of functions and interactions with other systems, for example, the immune system. We propose that chaperone malfunctioning due to structural damage or gene dysregulation during aging ha…

Dietary prevention of visual function and cognitive decline by omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in Senescence Accelerated Mouse P8 (SAM P8)

2008

International audience; Purpose: : Neuronal tissues such as the brain and the retina contain elevated amounts of long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and particularly docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). DHA concentrations are known to decrease in the aging brain and are associated with cognitive decline. The senescence-accelerated mouse prone 8 (SAM P8) is a mouse model for aging that exhibits deficits in cognitive performances as well as alterations of retinal functionality (ARVO 2004 E-abstract 797). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a dietary supplementation with DHA on mood, cognition and visual functionality of SAM P8 during aging. Methods: : SAM P8 mice we…

Climatic signals of tree-ring in Quercus gussonei (Borzì) Brullo in the Mediterranean region

2015

Change in growth is among the primary response of trees to environmental variation. Tree-rings contain a wealth of information related to the climatic conditions. A dendroclimatic study on Quercus gussonei (Borzì) Brullo was carried out in the Nature Reserve of “Bosco della Ficuzza, Rocca Busambra, Bosco Del Cappelliere, Gorgo Del Drago” (southern Italy). Q. gussonei is an endemic deciduous oak and thermophilous form of Quercus cerris L. that is found only in Sicily, although with clear sign of decline. The knowledge of ecology of this species should help to establish criteria for forest conservation in the Mediterranean region. For definining the ecological character and understanding the …

Recovery of cork forests and enhancement of by-products

2022

Cork oak (Quercus suber L.) is a tree species native to the western Mediterranean Basin (EUFORGEN 2019). Cork oak forests are human-shaped ecosystems that have to be managed to be preserved in a long-term perspective. Cork oak stands range from closed forests to open woodlands, provide high ecosystem services, mainly through cork production, support high biodiversity and provide carbon storage and water regulation services. Due to their important ecological role, these ecosystems are listed in the European Habitats Directive (Habitat 9330: Quercus suber forests, EEC, 1992). In the last years, especially in Italy, cork oak stands are undergoing a relevant regression due to the decline of tra…

ADIPOSE TISSUE-TARGETED STEM CELL TRANSPLANTATION FOR INSULIN RESISTANCE-RELATED CNS DEFICITS

Compelling evidence indicates that Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) and Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) may possibly share a common pathological origin, but the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. T2D is a known risk factor for AD and insulin resistance (hallmark of T2D) has been extensively documented in AD patients. Notably, insulin is important for learning and memory due to its role in LTP and LTD modulation. Adipose tissue (AT) dysfunction is a risk factor for T2D, in fact elevated levels of free fatty acids are prodromal to insulin resistance and have been reported in AD brains, as well. In this study, I used a mouse model (AtENPP1Tg mouse) that recapitulates typical characteristics of huma…
