Could beta-catenin regulate the expression of proteolitic enzymes during angiogenesis?
2009
During angiogenesis several modifications occurs at endothelial cell plasma membrane level as: MT-MMPs and serine integral membrane proteases (SIMPs) over-expression. Moreover, when endothelial cells during angiogenesis acquired a mesenchymal phenotype the cell-cell interactions mediate by cadherins are lost and β-catenin, a stabilizer of interaction occurring between cadherins and cytoscheleton, can translocate to the nucleus where acts as transcription factor in association to TCF/LEF. Our experiments were focalized to the expression/activation of proteolytic enzymes when cell-cell contacts are perturbed, by mechanical or site specific perturbations. We have analyzed the mRNA, proteins an…

The impact of a mesoscale convective system cold pool on the northward propagation of the intertropical discontinuity over West Africa
2009
The interaction between a mesoscale convection system cold pool and the intertropical discontinuity (ITD) is investigated on two consecutive days (5 and 6 June 2006), in the framework of the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis Special Observing Period (SOP 1a). Satellite imagery and surface meteorological observations are used to track the movement of the ITD prior to and after its interaction with the cold pool. The impact of the northward propagating cold pool on the Sahelo-Saharan planetary boundary layer (PBL) thermodynamics and aerosol vertical distribution is analyzed by means of airborne and ground-based measurements over the two-day period. Complementary European Centre for M…
Tumor and its microenvironment: a synergistic interplay.
2013
The mutual and interdependent interaction between tumor and its microenvironment is a crucial topic in cancer research. Recently, it was reported that targeting stromal events could improve efficacies of current therapeutics and prevent metastatic spreading. Tumor microenvironment is a "complex network" of different cell types, soluble factors, signaling molecules and extracellular matrix components, which orchestrate the fate of tumor progression. As by definition, cancer stem cells (CSCs) are proposed to be the unique cell type able to maintain tumor mass and survive outside the primary tumor at metastatic sites. Being exposed to environmental stressors, including reactive oxygen species …
Evaluation of air temperature estimated by ERA5-Land reanalysis using surface data in Pernambuco, Brazil.
2022
This study aimed to analyze the average air temperature data estimated by ERA5-Land reanalysis over 10 years (01/01/2011 to 12/31/2020), based on data from 12 automatic weather stations located in different cities in the state of Pernambuco, northeast of Brazil. For more careful evaluation, the average air temperature data were stratified by mesoregions of the state. ERA5-Land reanalysis data were validated using statistical indices that evaluated the accuracy. The average air temperature estimated by ERA5-Land reanalysis agree well with weather stations in almost the entire state of Pernambuco. The highest accuracy of the average air temperature estimated by ERA5-Land occurred in the city …

VAR modeļu un kointegrācijas analīzes pielietojums zelta cenas analīzē
2017
COMPARATIVE PROFILING BY PROTEOMICS AND ZYMOGRAPHIC ACTIVITIES OF TUMORAL AND NON TUMORAL CELL LINES
2015
The extracellular matrix (ECM) underlying epithelial tissues is involved in the maintenance of cell polarity and homeostasis. ECM is a dynamic structure under the regulated remodeling of its components. The major enzymes responsible of matrix degradation are the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), a well known family of zinc-dependent endopeptidases. Much attention has been focused on MMP-2 and MMP-9 because of their ability to degrade type IV collagen, a major constituent of basement membranes. A deregulated proteolysis of ECM molecules may cause the alteration of cell polarity and may contribute to the disruption of cell–cell and cell–ECM adhesions, promoting cancer progression. These alter…
The Repertoire of Tissue Inhibitors of Metalloproteases: Evolution, Regulation of Extracellular Matrix Proteolysis, Engineering and Therapeutic Chall…
2022
Tissue inhibitors of metalloproteases (TIMPs) belong to a fascinating protein family expressed in all Metazoa. They act as regulators of the turnover of the extracellular matrix, and they are consistently involved in essential processes. Herein, we recapitulate the main activities of mammalian TIMPs (TIMP1–4) in the control of extracellular-matrix degradation and pathologies associated with aberrant proteostasis. We delineate the activity of TIMPs in the control of extracellular matrix (ECM) homeostasis and discuss the diversity of TIMPs across metazoans taking into account the emergence of the components of the ECM during evolution. Thus, the TIMP repertoire herein analysed includes the ho…
Analisi dei modelli validi per lo studio dei processi di deposizione secca e sui dati meteo previsionali dell’ECMWF
2017
The DEIM's research group in collaboration with ENEA –C.R. Bologna, has performed the following activities: "Analysis of models to study dry deposition processes of pollutants in atmosphere onto urban surface", and "Preliminary study of compatibility between ECMWF forecast data and CALMET model". Regarding the first activity, a dry deposition model, based on electrical analogy, is developed to analyze complex phenomena, such as inertial impact processes and wind turbulence effects, that influence the transport of pollutants in the interface between urban canopy and quasi-laminar sublayer. The model allows the deposition rate assessment for particles with different diameters and various atmos…
